Explosion damages pipeline in northern Iraq -- October 17 2003

An explosion damaged an oil pipeline in north-west Iraq yesterday, causing a fire and further hampering Iraq's oil export capabilities, an Oil Ministry official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the explosion ripped open part of the main pipeline running from the northern oil fields to the Doura oil refinery and the Mussayab power plant.

"This means the shortage in the supply from the strategic pipeline will be compensated by supply from the southern fields until the pipeline is repaired," he said.

He said damage was yet to be assessed, as firefighters were still trying to put out the flames.

1. one million barrels of oil a day.
That seems to me like plenty of money to finance the reconstruction of Iraq. Why the hell do they need our 87B. As well as pay back to the American taxpayers the 80B we forked out right after the "major fighting" ended.

3. Golly! Who Knew?
In the same way the Condoleeza Rice and the gang never could've imagined anyone flying jets into the World Trade Center, I'm certain that the Executive Branch's cadre of veritable Einsteins never could have predicted that these Baathistterroristalqaeda types would go and blow up pipelines on a regular basis.

Color me not surprised.

4. Is it perverse of me to regard pipeline explosions as, finally,
"good news out of Iraq"?

The Bush cabal has given notice it doesn't give a damn for the welfare of its cannon fodder. But interrupting the oil flow strikes a blow at the heart of the empire.

"Paul Bremer, the US civilian administrator for Iraq, has said the country was losing $US7 million ($10.2 million) daily because of the closure of the export pipeline to Turkey."

Which country: Iraq or the United States or Haliburton?
