Explosion Damages Northern Iraqi Pipeline

Thursday October 16, 2003 9:46 PM By SABAH JERGES

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - An explosion damaged part of the main pipeline running from Iraq's northern oil fields on Thursday, forcing a reduction in the amount of oil available for export. <snip>

It was unclear whether the pipeline explosion near the city of Hadeetha, 125 miles northwest of Baghdad, was caused by saboteurs, a senior Oil Ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

He said the explosion ripped open part of the main pipeline linking the northern oil fields to the al-Doura oil refinery and the Mussayab power plant. The oil in the pipeline was earmarked for domestic use. <snip>

Iraq is exporting an average of 1 million barrels of oil a day, all of it coming from the southern oil fields. <snip>

3. Sure. There's lots of mystery explosions in Iraq.
As a matter of fact, all explosions in Iraq shall now be deemed "unexplained" because everyone is happy there and would have no reason to cause trouble for the liberators.

9. Not bad... One of the biggest problems I've had is that it seems 99% of
pics I can find are posed portrait type shots. I'll find something soon.

Here's the latest O'Reilly:

10. this is werid
This is not even close to being on the Northern Iraq (Kirkuk) oil fields to Turkey part of the pipeline.

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/oil/countries/iraq.html
(Asuuming that Hadeetha can be spelt Hadithah, above the big Iraq written on the map)

If my memory is correct the last three bombs, including this one, have not been on the main Kirkuk - Turkey pipeline. The last one I assume was a connecting pipeline within the Kirkuk oil field itself (I never found the place). The one previous to that was a little pipeline connecting an oilfield near Kirkuk to the main pipeline.

I do hope that this isn't a sign that the u.s. are getting the main pipeline security under control.
