1. note the location
no "Saddam loyalists", no "al-Qai'dah", none of that rubbish--the patience of the Shia is running very, very thin.

...

Wait, I've just been handed a memo from minitru. Everything is going great, go shopping. That is all.

3. You are so right Aidoneus...
but the truth will get "filtered" yet again. The media will continue to parrot the deadenders, terrrists and any other colorful catch phrases this misadministration can invent.

9. Mine came from the ministry of plenty
the chocolate ration will be up by 20 grams this month, only if
we keep listening to Big Brother and trust in his wisdom.

By the way anybody has caught a glimpse of Golds....

Ooops the Ministry of Love will be up to pick me up soon.

Now all jokes aside, you are correct... this is not the triangle,
but the Shiah... and they are loosing patience FAST... and our
troops will pay for it

2. gee - I thot it was "Mission accomplished" ??

. . didn't I see that somewhere ?

. . on some boat I think -

but in reality - from the article:

The deaths took to 100 the number of US troops killed in Iraq since President George W Bush declared major hostilities over on 1 May.

and I do believe it's alot more than 100 ??

and the major hostilities are NOT ended ?

I mean, just my sily Canuk math,

haven't MORE soldiers died since "Mission Accomplished",

than during the Invasion ??

8. Sounds like there is
a real sh*itstorm brewing.

Is it "imminent" or is it "grave and gathering"? Inquiring rhetoriticians want to know.

Shi'ia are rising, Kirkuk and Irbil are starting to boil, the IGC and their "allies" are being targeted more and more every day...

And the blood keeps flowing faster and faster...

10. seems so..
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 06:18 AM by Aidoneus
it's like Chechnya--sure, they blasted their way in somewhat easily. (murdering thousands, but they have the wrong flag and apparently pray to the wrong dude, so..) But as long as they're there as an occupying power, at least a dozen occupation soldiers a week will die in endless "minor" exchanges, and it'll be that way no matter how harsh they get with the locals. In fact, the harsher and more "thorough" the occupation forces get in trying to curb the resistance the more popular and lasting it'll be.
...all the same, the top propagandists will re-declare victory at a fairly regular rate, pose for a few photo ops with the chosen quislings to act as the proxy, "everything's going great!", bleh..

That average will probably rise if resistance in the South continues (and seeing how Iraq has 40-1 on the Chechen population a dozen weekly may end up as a low average). It's not just Sadr's Jaish al-Mahdi like Bremer's press squad is trying to present (that was also in the minitru memos), even the people around Ayatallah al-Udma Sayyid Ali Sistani, notorious for his passive tendences, are losing patience with things.

Photograph of the Destruction After a Terrorist Bomb Exploded Underneath the Brinks Hotel in Saigon

<>

At 5:55 p.m. on December 24, 1964, Viet Cong terrorists exploded a bomb in the garage area underneath the Brinks Hotel in Saigon, South Vietnam. The hotel, housing 125 military and civilian guests, was being used as officers' billets for U.S. Armed Forces in the Republic of Vietnam. Two Americans were killed, and 107 Americans, Vietnamese, and Australians were injured. Small buildings at the rear of the Brinks Hotel were completely destroyed by the force of the blast. 12/24/1964

12. my guess is 1,000 us troops dead by election 2004
that pretty much is a year away. at 330 now. about 2 a day from here on out, at least.

the attacks have been rising 10 a day to 23 or something like that and it is showing for more troops are coming home in body bags.

still, many more are losing limbs or just plain out committing suicide.

It is clear a plan for Iraqi self rule must be established ASAP, like within a month.

Get the troops out now.

15. Here's a later article, Resistance Is Futile -
Three US soldiers killed in Iraq bringing post-war combat losses to 100
October 17, 2003
(snip) Three US soldiers were killed in the central Iraqi city of Karbala overnight, a coalition spokesman said, bringing American combat losses since Washington declared an end to major hostilities on May 1 to 100.

Two Iraqi police also died in the attack in the centre of this Shiite Muslim holy city, said Major Ralph Manos, a spokesman for the multinational force which controls the Karbala area.

"Currently we confirmed three American MPs (military police) killed in action and two wounded, and we confirmed two Iraqi police killed in action and five Iraqi police wounded," said Manos on Friday.
"At approximately 11:30 pm (2030 GMT) yesterday, a routine Iraqi patrol, accompanied by American MPs, was attacked by Iraqis from the roofs of buildings in the vicinity of the al-Abbas mosque," one of the city's two main shrines. (snip)

(snip) The militiaman, who would not give his name, said the militia had been patrolling the impoverished neighborhood around the al-Abbas mosque in defiance of an overnight curfew.

The US-led coalition had imposed the curfew following clashes earlier this week between moderate and radical Shiites that left at least one person dead and two dozen wounded. (snip/...)

17. the guy interviewed in the line above your 2nd segment..
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 06:21 AM by Aidoneus
read about him before--Sheikh Mahmud al-Hassani was another student of Muqtada Sadr's father, he has militia behind him as well, from your piece it seems to have been the people involved here.

Another former student of Ayatallah al-Udma Sayyid Mohammed Sadiq al-Sadr to have an active force is Sheikh Mustafa/Mohammed (seen him referred to as both, not sure which is correct) al-Yaqubi, the Asia Times had an interesting piece on him when he formed his anti-occupation movement a few months ago. Haven't heard much of him since, but that may be because Muqtada Sadr is playing the lightning rod.

Sadr may be getting the attention, but he's not the only leader among the Shia that is displeased with the occupation.

26. indeed, confirmed to be this guy
--snip--

The US-led occupation army blamed bodyguards of a local Shia cleric for the attack.

"The attackers, who are bodyguards of religious leader Mahmud al-Hassani, used rocket-propelled grenades and AK- 47 rifles. They were about 20 to 30 attackers," the US army spokesman said.

Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 06:29 AM by teryang
...pointed out last night on the floor that the original budget authorization for the war of sixty six billion was supposed to last till April 2004.

Remember the 4 billion a month projection? Now that the regime can't account for how that money was spent they demand another 89 Billion and the stupid Congress is going to give it to them. Why is the *resident so involved in this budget resolution? Because he is a fucking mega-thief like his brothers and father.

Shiite gunmen defiantly shouted, "Allahu Akbar!" — "God is great!"

Glad to see the Iraqis are expressing how happy they are that we're over there.

<sarcasm off>

The fact that repugs still blindly follow this cabal amazes me still.

24. It's multiples of three now
All the recent reports of american deaths have came in threes, 12 in what five days? If that rate holds up, using my eighth grade math and giving up a couple of days lets see 4.12=48. It won't be long before someone starts too notice that things aren't all roses and sunshine in Iraqnam.

That makes 335 americans dead who should still be alive, and the number of wounded is anyone's guess, some of those wounded, well, I'd say life is pretty much over for them as well, stop the maddness now.

27. Howard Dean:
"Too many in my party, like Senators Kerry, Edwards and Lieberman, and Congressman Gephardt allowed the President to get us into this misguided war. It is clear General Clark also supported the war at this time. The right choice would have been voting 'no' last fall; voting 'no' now cannot erase that poor decision. Trying to have it both ways demonstrates neither strong leadership nor good judgment."
