Bush Intercontinental Airport locked down.
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 09:31 PM by Richardo
Two 'Asian' women bypassed security. TSA searching airport, no planes out (or in) until they're found.

This was a breaking story on the radio - I'll look for a link.

Apparently they've narrowed the search - airport reopened. I would have hated to be trapped on one of those inbound planes sitting on the tarmac.

11. The airport security people didn't even know it happened
they were told by a passenger.

From the Houston Chronicle.....

It's under investigation right now," said Mark Mancuso, director of public safety for the Houston Airport System.

An airport-system spokesman said earlier that the two women went through an inactive metal detector.

Spokesman Roger Smith said "It is quite possible that they were not trying to circumvent the security process. But the Transportation Security Administration has to make sure that anyone who goes through has no prohibited items."

A passenger waiting in line in Terminal C saw the women go through the checkpoint and alerted a security officer about 6:40 p.m. After security officials viewed a surveillance videotape showing the women going unchecked through the security gates, they began searching for them in gated areas, Smith said.

Oh, yeah, the Bush family business has really made us safe from "terrists".

3. I didn't know there was a Bush Intercontinental Airport.
...All of the TSA security checks had to be suspended for more than an hour, "which meant that no one could go through until this situation was resolved," Smith said...

I suppose it was named after Poppy Bush.

4. Yes it was - by fiat.
I left on a business trip one time from "Intercontinental Airport" and returned 4 days later to "George Bush Intercontinental Airport"

My reaction oscillated between :wtf: and :puke:

10. For decades, we were quite happy to be HOUSTON
then some right wing, Georgie butt kissers had to change the name.

Never mind that this CITY (not the state, but the CITY) overwhelmingly voted for CLINTON.

Someone felt sorry for Poppie, so we changed the name.

Okay, I guess I'm still a little angry about that, eh?

5. bypass??
uhm,,,,,

Pardon me for thinking... but... how do you bypass security at an airport... at a major hub airport...

Think about that next time you're flying and have to deal with the Transportation Security Jobs-Program.

Another question that just bakes the brain of most Freepers who think the ruling party has done a damn thing to help make us more safe as a national community...(as if sewn-on patch badges are gonna scare a terrorist)....... "Why do we need a department of homeland security if we already have a department of DEFENSE?" Extra credit... follow it up with the same question only throw "National Guard" in...

9. I am thinking they accidentally walked IN an OUT ONLY door that "bypasses
security"

My airport is the same way, you can walk right passed security by going in the out, but the alarms will go off. It is a small airport, so it wouldn't hold things up very long, but in a large one, it could cause everyone to freak out because no one knows what is going on.

6. I landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport about 7am on 9/11
They raised HELL there. It was completely insane. The special airport CNN channel started covering 9/11 (right as I was walking out of customs), and about 10 minutes later they shut down all of the TV's, 30 minutes after that they herded EVERYONE into the baggage claim area where they tossed out ALL of the baggage onto the floor sorted by destination (all airlines packed together). It felt great being herded with 5000 other people into a relatively tiny baggage claim area.

Their handling of emergency situations is sorely lacking...
