Ex-CIA operative faces deportation

EL PASO, Texas — A 77-year-old anti-Castro militant accused of orchestrating the deadly 1976 bombing of a Cuban jetliner faces a deportation hearing.

Also to be considered is whether the failed 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion was an act of U.S. terrorism.

Luis Posada Carriles is being held in a federal detention center in El Paso on charges that he sneaked into the country through Mexico in March. He was arrested in Miami in May.

At issue in today’s hearing, which could last a week, is whether the former CIA operative and U.S. Army lieutenant should be granted asylum in the United States despite requests by Venezuela that he be deported to that country.

Especially here on DU. It is a concrete example of the hypocrisy of the War on Terror (or whatever they're calling it today). This man should be deported to Cuba or Venezuala to stand trial for murdering civilians.

That would be acknowledging the fact that they behave like terrorists toward Cuba and all of Latin American for much of the recent history.

This guy should be shipped back to Venezuela, but they will struggle against this energicaly.

I don't care who he worked for - if his employment played a part in that act - it is also guilty of terrorism.

I don't think we'll ever get that satisfaction.
