AFP photographer, Reuters cameraman detained in Iraqi city of Fallujah

FALLUJAH, Iraq (AFP) - An AFP photographer and a Reuters cameraman were detained in Fallujah by Iraqi police who said they were acting on orders from the US military.

AFP Middle East photo chief Patrick Baz said he and his colleague were arrested as they covered the aftermath of an attack on a US convoy in the flashpoint city 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Baghdad.

"Police told us they could not release us until American officers come here," Baz said by telephone from the Fallujah police station.

He said the police officers, none of whom would reveal their names, explained that the Americans were looking for someone who allegedly filmed the attack that caused the explosion of a vehicle apparently carrying ammunition.

2. US Military doesn't want any photos of the explosion's aftermath

to be seen by any of us at home. Maybe they're worried what we'd think about Bush*'s war with young American limbs shrewn all over the place.

sounds to me the US Military may believe these journalists were tipped off by those who caused the attack. good idea to ask them questions to get behind who caused the attack. another reason to bring all of our troops home now, because they are sitting ducks for this gallery shoot of a war. the incident should still be investigated for the families of the victims if nothing else.

This is a reactionary way to gather intel.

I guess the CIA is still trying to get its
act together after its HQ was attacked
in broad daylight.

Think of the National Security Agency as an electronic vacuum cleaner sucking up every relevant scrap of electromagnetic or electronic emissions (radio, TV, Internet, Fiber Optic, etc.).

You can bet your last dollar that every spare piece of intelligence collection gear is focused on or inside Iraq as we breath.

9. This is not the first AFP guy to be seized, and a Reuters guy was murdered

Both AFP and Reuters have consistently defied regime decrees against reporting Crusader casualties, as well as disseminating information about the victims of the Crusaders.

Recently, the regime has decreed very unequivocally that media stories relating to the Crusade should be upbeat and positive.

Evidence indicates that these terrrorists were plotting to once again, defy the regime.

Both AFP and Reuters should re-evaluate their presence in Iraq, and when instructed, should cooperate with the regime in delivering the families of these rejectionists into regime custody for interrogation.

10. Moral of the story:

If you are a reporter in a war zone, especially where the US is involved, Your Life is at Stake. Even more so, if you carry a camera or a cam corder.

They do not want you to alter their propaganda program.
