"Evangelical" Blair sent Britain to war for false reasons: ex-FM
LONDON (AFP) - The "evangelical" belief of British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites) that Iraq (news - web sites) possessed weapons of mass destruction pushed the country into war for false reasons, Blair's former foreign secretary charged.

Blair believed his own case for war "perhaps too passionately", said Robin Cook, who resigned from the government due to his opposition to the war to remove Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

The prime minister and fellow government members "needed to believe that Saddam was a threat", Cook told BBC television's Breakfast with Frost programme.

2. Oh.Thought This Referred to "Evangelical" Rumor
over the past year (no links) that BLAIR was thisclose to converting to Catholicism via Cherie and that his religious fervor is what makes him bond with Shrub (yeah/right).

5. Deluded chickenhawks.
It does baffle me how the chickenhawks essentially deluded themselves into supporting this misadventure. Here is a good article that explains more. Why can't these people think beyond war for the sake of war? I am not a pacifist by any stretch but I do need to be convinced of the case for any invasion.

As for Tony Blair's veracity, with him there is a wavy line between deception and self-deception. He is so easily carried away by the persuasiveness of his own words and the force of his own arguments that you can hear him mesmerise himself: the truth with him is bound up with extraordinary optimism. There is an almost childish blurring between the wish and the fact: if he says something strongly enough, his words can magic it into truth.
