Strayhorn ads attack Perry on child abuse issue
Governor says opponent's timing is inappropriate

AUSTIN - Two days after suspending campaign advertising because Hurricane Katrina had made this a "time for prayer," Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn went back on the offensive Wednesday, accusing Gov. Rick Perry of failing to lead the fight against child sexual abuse.
(snip)

"This is not the time for political talk. We've got people whose lives are still in danger in Louisiana. We're trying to help our neighbors across the way," Perry said. "For God's sake, let's get focused on what's important here, and that's our neighbors who have a massive tragedy," the governor said.

Defends timing
Strayhorn said the timing was appropriate because Florida today will implement tough mandatory sentencing laws known as "Jessica's Law" for anyone who sexually assaults a child.

She said Perry had "misplaced priorities" for not putting such proposed legislation on the call of the two special sessions he held this summer.

Perry spokesman Robert Black said that Perry supports tougher laws but that now is not the time to talk about it.

Once again, a prominant Republican points out his opponent's inability to put Americans first, like him! Oh, help.

Either Strayhorn is WITH Katrina victems, or she's AGAINST Katrina victems.

2. Perry needs to tell shrub...
the part about: "This is not the time for political talk. We've got people whose lives are still in danger in Louisiana".

Seeing as how chimp was doing his political talk/trip as Katrina was hitting shore and during the immediate aftermath.
