George Bush`s public approval rating down in second poll

NEW YORK, NY, United States (UPI) -- In a second poll in as many days, U.S. President George Bush`s public approval rating has fallen to a record low 45 percent.

The results of a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll published Thursday mirrored a Washington Post/ABC News poll published a day earlier not only in percentage points, but in motivation -- the war in Iraq and gas prices that exceeded $3 per gallon Wednesday.

Six of 10 Americans disapprove of Bush`s handling of the economy, healthcare and Iraq. Of six issues, he scored a net positive rating only on handling terrorism, an area of strength since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Bush`s standing is worse than any other modern president at this point in a second term except Richard Nixon, who was then enmeshed in the Watergate scandal.

more from Gallup:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/content/?ci=18286

Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling -- ?

2005 Aug 28-30
(sorted by "approve")

Approve Disapprove

Terrorism 53 44

Foreign affairs 43 52

The situation in Iraq 40 59

The economy 38 60

Healthcare policy 32 60

Gas prices 20 76

Bush's overall job approval rating is 45%, up from 40% a week ago, which was the lowest rating of his presidency. An analysis of the ratings over the three-day interviewing period shows a slight increase in support for the president after Hurricane Katrina struck some of the Gulf Coast states. It is not unusual for presidents to experience an increase in public support following national tragedies.

resign. Did he do so after he'd tanked any of the three oil companies he captained - and drove straight into a ditch? (Hmmm... WHO, exactly, is the "bitch in the ditch," then?)

No. I do agree that it WOULD be the correct, proper, selfless, noble, and honorable thing to do in a case like this: resign. It's what he should do, as one of those fabled and much-vaunted "adults" his people boasted were "back in charge" at the end of 2000. He owes it to this country to put this country first, and not himself. That's what some CEOs actually do when they've performed in a manifestly abysmal job shepherding their corporations. That's what Japanese prime ministers often do when they've fucked things up royally. In fact, I seem to recall reading how some Japanese CEOs take so personally how well or poorly they perform on the job, and take their leadership so seriously, that - if they botch things - some have actually committed sepukku (spelling?).

Not this guy. While it WOULD INDEED be the correct, proper, selfless, noble, and honorable thing to do, to resign in the wake of having demonstrated such repeated and flagrant incompetence, george simply does not have it in him to do anything the LEAST bit correct, proper, selfless, noble or honorable. He wasn't brought up to do that. He wasn't ever held accountable for any of his multitudes of fuck-ups over the years, from the beginning til now. He's never been taught, or been encouraged, to do anything that is NOT self-serving, short-sighted, reckless, or irresponsible. He simply wouldn't know how to do the correct thing here. And you can bet your mother's pension and your children's debt to the national treasury that NO ONE surrounding him in this White House would dare even to bring it up. They're all flattering him and simpering and pussyfooting and tiptoeing around him and lying to him and telling him what a good job he's doing and how simply marvelous he is. Most of 'em who otherwise could - don't dare. They know better by now - because of the obvious uselessness and the fact that they'd get their heads handed to them - or (thank you, kkkarl) there'd be retaliation of some sort against their wives or families. The others wouldn't even consider such a thing because they see no reason to. They think they can just keep the manipulations and lies going, and that their power is everlasting and omnipotent.

The only people forced to resign in this bunch are those who have the balls to do the correct thing, and then are pushed out for it. You get REWARDED for fucking up with these vermin. You DON'T get told you need to resign.

Just one more reason why WE need to push these assholes OUT.

Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!!!
Pass it on...

And do MORE, still.

As of next week, start calling your reps again.

Write this message ("Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!!! Pass it on...) on a post-it or something and tape it to your bathroom mirror so it's the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see before bedtime. Stick another on your refrigerator. Put it in a "PS:" at the end of every snailmail and/or email you write. It needs to be said, read, and SPREAD.

Because, for the good of whatever's left of what we used to know as America, we HAVE TO get rid of these people. STARTING directly at the top.

41. "Visualize Impeachment " on your bumper sticker.
A post-it note in my bathroom is preaching to the choir. The public has got to start believing it as well. Guy stopped me in the parking lot at the train station this morning and asked me where I got mine. Told him I made it on my computer. He said "God bless you for spreading the word". C'mon everybody, spread the word.

11. Poll Shows 40% Back Iraq Troop Pullout (29% finish what it started)

Poll Shows 40% Back Iraq Troop Pullout

WASHINGTON — When asked what they would tell President Bush about Iraq if they could talk to him for 15 minutes, four in 10 Americans said they would urge him to get out — the response given most often to a question asked by Gallup Poll.

More than 1,000 Americans were asked: "If you could talk with President Bush for 15 minutes about the situation in Iraq, what would you, personally, advise him to do?"

About three in 10 — 29% — said the United States should finish what it started, be more aggressive or send more troops.

15. His polls are bad now...just wait until...
...the Katrina factor starts affecting his numbers.

How he handled this disaster is an abomination and the world knows it.

Soon, there will be more information emerging about how much of the aftermath of Katrina is his fault. He cut FEMA. He denied Fed funding to strengthen the levies.

Tons of officials in NOLA have been pissed and frustrated for years, due to these funding cuts. These people will not be silent.

It may take a while, but their voices will be heard.

In the meantime, Junior is giving canned, fluffy speeches full of sound-bytes. It's insulting.

I predict his polls down another 7-9 percent within the next 2 weeks.

Furthermore, support for Iraq will further erode. People want America fixed--not another country. This disaster highlights the need to take care of our own before we spend our dollars and resources to instill an Islamic State in the Middle East.

I love watching this criminal, thug jackass free fall.

18. So when you say you disapprove of the war in Iraq
Remember that you're standing with 60% of your fellow Americans. Don't take any lip off the "you're a traitor who just hates the president" crowd of sub-troglodytes. If you're trying to pick a fight, which side would you rather be on, the side with six people or the side with four people (two of whom are Phyllis Schlafly and Little Arfin' Annie Coulter)?

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:11 AM by calimary
ANY time you get smart-mouthed by one of these idiots demanding to know "why do you hate America?" all you have to do is hit back with - "Why do YOU hate America?"

And BTW - that's 60 percent TODAY. As it sinks in with more Americans that all those National Guard troops marooned in Iraq where they can't do us any good HERE, NOW, george's "fans" will WISH it was as "low" as 60 percent. I defy ANYONE in the Hurricane Belt to confirm that they feel safer.

...but, but, but... he's keeping us safe!!??!!?!?!??!?!?!? Yeah. ANOTHER disaster.

ON HIS WATCH.

And isn't it ironic that this one occurs at almost the exact same time in this term as the last one did in his first term?

Of course his rating should be down to 0 next week after his performance this week (how many chances does this guy get?), but I think it will go UP, not down.

Rove will have one photo op after another (in macho man costumes and settings) and it will be masterful. Too many Americans want a Daddy figure and this will be provided in the coming days. That's why for 4 years Bush's pr machine has done nothing but create fears and shove the Chimp out there to 'protect' us.
