Bush Expresses Sadness at Rehnquist Death

(09-03) 21:09 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

The White House said late Saturday the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist was "a tremendous loss for our nation" and issued a statement of condolence on behalf of President Bush.

Bush was notified about Rehnquist's death shortly before 11 p.m. It will be up to the president to nominate Rehnquist's successor on the Supreme Court.

"President Bush and Mrs. Bush are deeply saddened by the news" of Rehnquist's death, White House counselor Dan Bartlett said. "It's a tremendous loss for our nation."

The president, after attending church services on Sunday, will make a statement about Rehnquist, presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said.

...to sympathize with the dead in the US Gulf Coast.

21. I agree with you ...
I think bush is estatic. And I think we better impeach him soon or he will appoint two judges and we will be living in the 17th century.

15. Yep, they're renaming Labor Day
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 01:30 AM by gmoney
...to Rehnquist Day. Having "Labor Day" on the calendar as a paid holiday I'm sure has irritated the Republicans for years... "sounds vaguely commie to me."

Of course, they also ask "When's Capitalist Day?" and of course the answer is "In the US, EVERY DAY is Capitalist Day."

16. Double standard
Poor black people in NOLA wait 5 days for action. Some old white judge dies in his comfortable bed and AWOL stays up all night writing sympathy cards.

17. You can bet that the Bush White House sprang into action immediately
upon hearing of Rehnquist's death. About 5000x more immediately than they did upon hearing of Katrina's devastation.

19. Was "sadness" expressed by any administration official for NOLA people ?
All that came thru here was, order and security would be regained.
Thought that was funny " we are going to secure New Orleans"
to which the reply would have to be something like
"you can have New Orleans, just bring some freakin water!"

at the same time. Maybe he will have to answer to them.

23. He's gloating, the son of a bitch!
This is what he's been living for.

I am just so pissed and feel so helpless to stop this right wing swing. I feel devastated over all that is happening and now the fact that this fraud of a president will appoint two members of the Supreme COurt and a Chief Justice, no less, almost has me to the breaking point.
