Wendys and Halliburton among small percentage of Fortune 500 companies not protecting gays

by Michael Rogers

Washington, DC - According to a report released today by the Philadelphia-based Equality Forum, while policies to protect gays and lesbians from job discrimination have been put into place at over 90% of Fortune 500 companies, giant firms such as Halliburton, Exxon Mobil, and Wendy's International still have no such rules in place.

1. That's the last I shop at Wendy's or Exxon (not that they were favorites)
We can let the companies know what we think by withholding our dollars - it's all they understand.

Not much we can do about criminal Halliburton. I can only hope that they'll lose good employees. If they have any. I wonder if you have to pass an "evil test" to work for Halliburton?

And how being against someone being fired for being gay is "glib"? Do you know what glib means?

And, "you people" means you're not including yourself as one of us, so you know what that means.....

I haven't eaten at a Wendy's for over 10 years. Lousy food and piss poor service. Now I must confess a hunger on occasion for an In and Out burger.

9. We have to let Wendy's know just WHY we're going to boycott, too
They need to know they will be paying a price for their homophobic corporate policies.

19. There are no federal protections for gays
Unless your state or city passes an anti-discrimination law or ordinance, there is little protection available to gays from job discrimination.

Here is a case involving a gay nurse and his homophobic supervisor at a Catholic Hospital in Indianapolis. This is the Hamner v. Saint Vincent Hospital:

Gary Hamner is a male nurse and a homosexual who
began working for St. Vincent Hospital in 1993.
In 1995, he became the charge nurse of a unit in
the St. Vincent Stress Center where he supervised
the staff, including nurses, clinicians and
technicians, and communicated with physicians to
coordinate patient care. Hamner's direct
supervisor was Marilyn Knoy, a Nursing Manager,
and Knoy's supervisor was Dr. Joseph Edwards, the
Medical Director of the same unit in the Stress
Center.

Because they worked in the same unit, Hamner and
Edwards had to communicate with each other to
provide patient care. According to Hamner, he and
Edwards had a poor working relationship. Edwards
would refuse to acknowledge or communicate with
Hamner, screamed at him during telephone
conversations, and harassed him by lisping at
him, flipping his wrists, and making jokes about
homosexuals.

On September 26, 1996, Hamner filed a written
grievance with the hospital about Edwards's
harassment. The parties dispute the basis of
Hamner's grievance, a copy of which is not in the
record. According to Hamner, he complained that
Edwards was harassing him because of his sex and
sexual orientation. The hospital alleges,
however, that Hamner's grievance was based only
on his belief that Edwards harassed him because
of his homosexuality. Shortly after Hamner filed
his grievance, Dr. Paul Lefkovitz, the Executive
Director of the Stress Center (and Edwards's
supervisor), investigated the grievance. After
concluding his investigation, Lefkovitz sent
Hamner a letter on October 15, 1996, stating that
he talked with Edwards about Hamner's complaints
about Edwards's "homophobia," and that Edwards
acknowledged his "irreverent" humor and that he
would be more mindful of Hamner's concerns in the
future.

Subsequently, the hospital fired Hamner on
October 18, 1996.

21. Another case of the homosexual 'disrupting' business as usual!
After all, 'those people' cause public disruption by (pick one)
-acting like that
-being like that
-dressing like that
-talking like that

I've heard this line from rednecks in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois so much, even from police, that I moved to the West Coast! Rednecks make me sick!

20. Mary Cheney is one of the most selfish cowards in American History
Having traded on her family's influence to get jobs that ostensibly help gays (but really don't), she NEVER shows up in public. Crying crocodile tears for having been abused, the entire Cheney family chorused with victimhood about her having been mentioned by the Democrats, but SHE never showed up to say a word. She is a despicable user, and hasn't a scrap of integrity.

Where are you, Mary?

The true enemy of democracy is privilege, and she deems herself to be aristocracy. Worse, she sells others down the river for heaps of coin, and expects to garner sympathy in the process. She's deeply morally ugly.

Explain yourself, princess.

Gay? Lesbian? Doesn't matter if you're super-rich. Criminal? Kleptomaniac? Murderer? Rapist? Pedophile? Doesn't matter if you're super-rich.

In fact, Armchair Subversive has a list of Republican pedophiles... despite all the "child sex parties" and child prostitution rings, no high-ranking politicians were ever touched, despite very credible reports of their involvement (Franklin Credit Union money laundering for child prostitution rings scandal).

27. I have only contempt for her.
You're absolutely right. She's benefitted mightily from the positive advances made by the left, but sits comfortably in her RW castle and "lets them eat cake."

Ugh.
