George H.W. Bush: Media Unfairly Slamming My Son (Paging "Mr. Sulzberger")

NEW YORK Appearing on the Larry King show on CNN Monday night, former President George H.W. Bush defended his son against criticism for his response to the hurricane disaster, suggesting it was mainly media-generated.

Goaded on by King, he eventually backed off, saying if he kept talking he would be hearing from "Mr. Sulzberger," apparently referring to Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., publisher of The New York Times.

Asked about the criticism, the former president said, "I think any time there's a crisis people want to blame someone. I've never been much for the Monday morning quarterbacking and to be very candid, Larry, I think some of the criticism had been grossly unfair, particularly when they suggest the president doesn't care and all of that.

"You have to understand that people that are hurting are going to criticize. I thought President Clinton put it pretty well today when he said 'Let's get on with it and then there will be plenty of time to assign blame.'
"But you know the media has a fascination, Larry, and you know this, I'm not saying you but the media has a fascination with the blame game and instead of looking for what can we do to help now there's a lot of why didn't we do something different?"

He failed in every business venture prior to his trek into "public service." More than once, he had to be bailed out by outsiders friendly to the Bush Family.

He failed with 9/11 and now New Orleans. Face the facts, he's a major f*ckup! Quit whining...

27. "I'm not saying you but the media..."
"The media".

I watched "MAX" last night. And I was terrified. The similarities between these people and Hitler is incredible.

I'm not saying you, but the media. Does anyone else see what I see? He's talking to the media as he says that. It is obvious to me that "the media" is a nonexistent thing. And this is how they work. Like the Wizard of Oz, they are hiding behind a curtain of propaganda. And the ignorant people of America who call themselves conservatives, have eaten it up. We saw it all along. But they didn't.

Besides, H.W., why are you defending your son? You shouldn't have to be on Larry King defending your son, if he isn't a worthless blob of flesh.

Its an out for Clinton's wife to be able to knock the President down.

I WILL criticize Chumpy for CHOSING to play golf when New Orleans was beginning to flood, I BLAME Chimpy for waiting til Thursday which appeared to a reactionary response to the criticism, not an urgent need to ...God forbid.. lead the effort. I blame CHimpy for clearing air space for several hours which hampered relief efforts...

And in defense of the Governor and the mayor..... responsible people ASK FOR HELP when they can't handle things...thats what I do when I am in over my head and they did that IN ADVANCE. Blanco went through proper channels...

40. Nothing to see here folks--just a typical dysfunctional family from hell..
Please remember--people like Junior become sociopathic because their parents and other never hold them accountable. They're always apologizing for them, rationalizing and covering up.

This is one of the elements that keeps a sociopath, a sociopath.

I heard Bar and Senior making excuses and covering for Junior and I was disgusted. Junior failed. He failed to act in a timely manner and people died. Instead of helping him face the truth and be accountable, they cover for him. So Junior doesn't have to face responsibility. He has his famous parents covering for his crimes.

How convenient.

Senior and Bar are classic "enablers". They give Junior an environment in which to be reckless, unsympathetic and irresponsible. He damn well knows that no matter what he does (goofs off and gets bad grades, fails at every business dealing, doesn't want to go to Nam, lies a country into war, recklessly responds to America's worst natural disaster) someone will be on every media outlet--covering his ass like there's no tomorrow.

I saw the interview and was sickened by the number of times Senior referred to Junior's uber-Christian ways and "deep, deep, deep faith." My stars. The man's inaction and aloof carelessness just killed thousands. He lied us into war, in which innocent soldiers and Iraqis are being murdered. I'm sick and tired of them using religion to explain away Junior's evil.

Hypocritical fools.

One last point--Senior made the point that anyone who says anything bad about Junior is in trouble with Bar. They yucked it up and Bar said, "Oh, just as my husband. I get fierce if anyone criticizes George." The woman is so defensive about this son, that she won't even hear a negative word. She's the main reason her son is sociopathic. She helps him live in a fantasy world where he never, ever does anything wrong. It's pathological. No wonder he can't hear the other side, or take into account that he makes mistakes. He was raised by a woman who fiercely deflected any constructive criticism of her son. He's NEVER had to question himself or take responsibility--despite his obvious fuck ups, goofing off, failures and mediocre life.

45. years ago, Laura said that her mother-in-law...
...told her early on "No one criticizes George."

Once, Laura DID criticize him, when they were driving home from a speech and George asked how he'd done. Laura told him, and then George drove the car right into the garage wall.

That's why he's a tyrant.

44. Even today, Poppy comes to rescue his fuck-up son
This is a big reason why Dubya is such a screw up. Every time his idiot son got into trouble, Poppy came through and saved the day, protecting him from his own responsibilities as an adult. There was no fuck-up that Poppy wouldn't cover up, no misbehavior Poppy wouldn't excuse, no trouble Poppy wouldn't rescue the idiot son.

This happened in college, in his drunken troubles, getting him into businesses that later he would run into the ground, troubles with the FTC, then politics, etc, etc...

Now, in the major screwup of his inept son's life, Poppy comes through calling "unfair" those that are trying to make him accountable.

63. Yes, little Chimpy's feelings are MUCH more important
