Officials pursue reluctant evacuees

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/katrina/stories/090605dntexkatevac.dca102e.html

Burl Jones was riding his bicycle down St. Charles Avenue in search of water to drink Monday morning when a police officer waved him down and told him he would have to leave the city in a government van – immediately.

"I'm on blood pressure pills, and I asked them to let me go and get my blood pressure medicine, but they say no. I live three blocks from here," he said, his voice rising in panic. "I need my medicine, and they won't let me go."

Deputy police Superintendent Warren Riley said officers have not been told to begin forcing people out because that would take authorization from the governor's office. But after weeks of pleading with residents to leave, police started to take a tougher line Monday, calling the city uninhabitable.

Among the other detainees were two Hispanic men who pointed at several cases of water and frantically tried to explain in Spanish and sign language that their families needed it to survive. But police Detective Walter Powers Jr. shrugged and ordered them to sit in the shade until their transportation arrived, ignoring several people passing on bicycles.

1. So the one man is put under additional stress with no BP medicine
and another is basically kidnapped and his family has no idea where he went?
Sounds like the gestapo is starting to round people up.

2. And then we will have families spread from Utah to Puerto Rico
Imagine if your loved one went out to find water..and never came back. Not **because** of the storm, but because of basically being kidnapped by chimp's goons.

4. THE CHIMP'S GOONS
I thought those were the 'PRIVATE CONTRACTORS" in IRAQ-NAM who routinely kill the "______" HEADS (insert appropriate adjective Ie towel, rag, mop, napkin, table cloth, etc)

3. the abject cruelty characterizing this entire operation is unprecedented
refusing people food and water, dividing families, forcing pet owners to abandon their loyal companions, keeping people from their medicines, and all the rest of it . . . apparently the notion of compassion is unknown to the people at FEMA, Homeland Security, and the entire BushCo enterprise . . . "compassionate conservatism" is an oxymoron . . .

5. Its COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM AT WORK
Their whole attitude is that "THESE PEOPLE" are the dregs of society.

In other words, they should be grateful for every little morsel they get.

6. So much for family values
These criminals don't give a shit about real family values, which includes keeping families together--including pets! The only family Bushco values is the bush crime family!

Kerry was right when he accused Bush and the Repukes of not valuing families!

7. Handcuff and "forcefully remove"
http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tporleans/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tporleans/archives/2005_09.html#077204

In St. Bernard, however, officials said they were still pulling people out of flooded homes.

Incredibly, many resisted rescue efforts and wanted to remain. Sheriff Jack Stephens said he ordered deputies to handcuff and "forcefully remove" holdouts.

As that work continued, teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency used global positioning devices to log the homes they would have to revisit to collect bodies already spotted.

But as the engineering rescue inched forward, all around lay waste and devastation, and the certainty that the stagnant waters of Lake Pontchartain that captured parts of Orleans, St. Bernard, Jefferson, St. Tammany and Plaquemines parishes a week ago now embraced unnumbered thousands of rotting corpses bobbing in flooded attics, decomposing on rooftops or sunk in the darkness of their homes.
------------------

FEMA has already said on police scanner that they will not be the ones to collect the bodies, they said that gets done by the US military morgue troops.
