Kanye's Late Registration Sales Soar after 'George Bush' Rant

Daily Hip-Hop News:
Kanye's Late Registration Sales Soar after 'George Bush' Rant

Kanye West's first week sales are expected to reach the 900,000 mark following the super producer's off-the-cuff rant about the president during MSNBC's recent Concert for Hurricane Relief.

Last Thursday, early reports indicated that West's Late Registration was poised to scan between 800,000 to 850,000 units in its first week. But today, reports show that Late Registration is headed even higher towards 900,000 units sold, after Kanye's scathing remarks about the president were broadcasted to millions during the MSNBC telethon and later re-broadcasted across the internet and news media.

Kanye's sales spike is being attributed to support for the Chicago rapper/producer after his comments during MSNBC's Concert for Hurricane Relief last Friday. During an impromptu rant with Austin Power's Mike Myers at his side, West went off his prepared statements and sharply criticized the media for calling Black people 'looters' and condemned the president's failure to respond to the Katrina Crisis.

"I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family it says they're looting. You see a white family it says they are looking for food," Ye stated in reference to Yahoo! and other media outlets showing photos of Black people captioned as "looters" while white people seemed to "find" food from grocery stores.

A shocked Myers continued following the teleprompter, when West exclaimed, "George Bush doesn't care about Black people."

1. This is GREAT NEWS!
The Corporatocracy will read the balance sheets and discover that Bush-Bashing sells, sells quickly, and sells big. Being the whores that they are, record execs will soon be calling for their artists to start releasing rabid anti-Bush stuff, in an effort to cash in.

Money. Follow the money. Corporate America doesn't really care about where the money comes from, just so they can keep the shareholders happy. If Bush Bashing is a hot marketing gimmick, they'll all jump aboard.

12. Actually, I think The Dixie Chicks's Natalie Maine (sp)
Made her remark in a sea of silence.

But, today who would they go after? There are so many outspoken critics.

Remember, bullies only target the weak and the few in numbers, when the odds are any where close to even they turn tail and run.

7. Sign me up for a CD!!
I saw the first broadcast where he got to make the GWB remark - I only wish I'd been tivo-ing! I'll also be buying some Harry Connick, Jr.

But Mike Myers disappointed me in the telecast. So, now I can do without a 4th Austin Powers, thank you.

14. Harry Connick, Jr. recommendation
I have had my quibbles in the past with Harry (let's just say that he's not pro-choice,) but after his actions this week, all is forgiven.

If you like big band, (and who doesn't, hm?) try "20," which is an older CD of Harry's. It contains a lovely version of "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans".

Julie
buying a Kanye West CD as well...

9. Check "Diamonds (from Sierra Leone)"
Kanye was already getting political before the telethon: his newest video is all about the trade in blood diamonds. I'm so glad to see politics coming back to mainstream hiphop.

17. Kanye to hip hop: STOP the gay bashing
Saw him make a heartfelt plea in an MTV2 interview. In the discussion, Kanye relates how he recognized and overcame his own homophobia, the ways in which gay bashing is perpetuated in the hip hop world, and how hypocritical it is. He's quite a guy. I hope he brings a new, higher consciousness to music.
