Strong typhoon lashes Kagoshima; 4 dead, 16 missing

TOKYO � Typhoon Nabi whipped Kyushu and parts of western Japan on Tuesday, leaving at least four people dead, 16 missing and 41 people injured. Local governments in Miyazaki Prefecture and neighboring regions advised about 108,000 people in more than 47,000 households to evacuate, and about 33,000 others evacuated voluntarily.

The typhoon, the 14th of the season, was packing winds of up to 126 kilometers per hour at its center. All train services were halted on Kyushu and Shikoku as of Tuesday evening. Bullet train services have been suspended between Hiroshima and Hakata, Fukuoka Prefecture, since 10 a.m.

126 kilometers per hour would be about 78 mph if I'm not mistaken. Not exactly a 'Katrina' type storm, but hurricane strength all the same.
