Feingold to seek bankruptcy protections for Katrina victims

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Sen. Russ Feingold plans to seek legislation aimed at softening the effects of a new, tougher bankruptcy law on victims of Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters.

Feingold, D-Wis., said he wanted to make sure the new law "does not compound the hardship for thousands of hardworking Americans who simply will not be able to make ends meet as a result of this disaster."

The law, which makes it harder for debt-ridden Americans to wipe out their obligations, takes effect Oct. 17.

Feingold said he hoped to introduce a bill and have it included in disaster relief legislation Congress is expected to pass.

Feingold Rocks!

1. Could this be part of why evacuees are turning into detainees,
or just a serendipitous event for Citibank, Providian and Capital One?

10. Yes, we can call this legislation...
the "Jean Valjean Protecting our Nations most valuable businesses from fraud by those people whose fault it is any way Act."

6. No. We need to keep as many Dems in the Senate as possible right now!
Besides, Senators just don't make good Presidential candidates.

He's going a good job as Senator, keep him there.

9. As much as I'd love to see him as President
I really want him to stay in the Senate. He does a KICKASS job of representing Wisconsin, and I'm proud to have him as my Senator.

Kick ass, Russ!

7. yes you are correct
it is a very bad law. It puts every single person in America one step away from the street if they get hit with a serious illness, a disaster or some other unplanned event - things that make life what it is ... life.

REPEAL THE BANKRUPTCY ACT NOW! Cancel those greed monger credit cards NOW too. You can get different ones from companies that aren't as greedy and shark toothed as places like MBNA!

:grr:

KEEP HOPE ALIVE!
