U.S. Deploys Slide Show to Press Case Against Iran
UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 13 -- With an hour-long slide show that blends satellite imagery with disquieting assumptions about Iran's nuclear energy program, Bush administration officials have been trying to convince allies that Tehran is on a fast track toward nuclear weapons.

The PowerPoint briefing, titled "A History of Concealment and Deception," has been presented to diplomats from more than a dozen countries. Intended to win allies for increasing pressure on the Iranian government, several diplomats said the presentation dismisses ambiguities in the evidence about Iran's intentions and omits alternative explanations under debate among intelligence analysts.

According to diplomats who have attended the briefings and U.S. officials who helped to assemble it, the presenters argue that the evidence leads solidly to a conclusion that Iran's nuclear program is aimed at producing weapons.

The president's direct involvement marks an escalation of a two-year effort to bring Iran before the U.N. Security Council, which has the power to impose sanctions, unless Tehran gives up technology capable of enriching uranium for a bomb.

1. Heh. Doesn't this sound curiously similar to ...
The exhibit of "evidence" Colin Powell presented to the UN prior to the invasion of Iraq? The one he recently stated to be the lowest point of his term?

In other words, the rest of the world has realized that the pRetzeldent is a liar. Worse than Reagan, worse than Nixon. In many aspects, similar to * the smarter, but with a sadistic streak to him, perhaps the pRetzeldent has become our Nation's biggest liar.

Why doesn't he just sit down and play with his monkey, just like Bar used to tell him when he was a child. Just sit there and play with your (sock) monkey Georgie. just play with your monkey.

17. Was the slide show of actual photographs this time
or drawings, once again?

Who on this earth would believe ANYTHING they said? This really is funny after all. I used to have a hard time with political humor, it was all so seriously upsetting and people are joking, I would think... but now, I'm f'in laughing my ass off, there is NOTHING left but to get a gut wrenching belly laugh at the insanity of it all!

12. I highly doubt that Bush would seek sanctions
In all likelihood, he would simply make the presentation, and when things (logically) wouldn't go his way, invade Iran anyway. The question is: with what army?

18. Familiar but with a new twist
"The presentation has not been vetted through standard U.S. intelligence channels because it does not include secret material. One U.S. official involved in the briefing said the intelligence community had nothing to do with the presentation and "probably would have disavowed some of it because it draws conclusions that aren't strictly supported by the facts."

Just skip the intelligence...good idea.

... by distributing a Video-DVD of Colin Powell's "Iraq WMDs" testimony -- maybe adding some nifty DVD add-on features, like voiceovers from various politicians, howling at the lies and deception.

20. Enough already!
China has nukes. North Korea has nukes. Russia has nukes. Israel has nukes. India has nukes. Pakistan has nukes. France has nukes. The UK has nukes. Ukraine might have nukes. And... the United States has nukes. Considering we are the only country to have actually used nuclear weapons, it seems only right we give them up on the condition everyone else will. If not, well... I don't see why other countries don't have the right to develop weapons with which to defend themselves from known threats.

That's just me. I'm sure it's written in the Bible, somewhere, we're allowed to kill anybody we want and the dying just have to take it. So, what do I know?

22. Who is the designated "liar to the U.N." now that Powell is gone?
They just say "presenters", "officials", and "diplomats" in the article. You know it is a pack of lies if nobody will even put their name to it.

25. This sounds ripe for a Daily Show segment.
In this slide we see aluminum tubes. Oh wait, that was Iraq. In this slide we have my mother-in-law at the summer cabin by the lake.. Doh!, we must have mixed up the family snapshots. Here's Donald Rumsfeld in fourth grade, accusing the fifth grade teacher of having weapons of math instruction. He was so cute back then.

And our lame-assed "dog and pony" shows. I wish the damn UN would also move out of the US so foreign dignitaries wouldn't think they'd get mugged if they don't applaud when Bolton holds up his "Applaud Now!" signs.
