Texas County Bans Parking Near Bush Ranch

WACO, Texas - Two weeks after Cindy Sheehan left her anti-war campsite by the road leading to President Bush's ranch, county commissioners have banned parking along 23 miles of roads in the area.

Before the 4-1 vote Tuesday, McLennan County Commissioner Ray Meadows said about 80 residents had complained of blocked roads, loud music and public health and safety concerns during the 26-day protest near Bush's ranch outside Crawford, about 20 miles west of Waco.

"It's not a First Amendment issue. It's a safety issue," Meadows said, adding that "no parking" signs could be put up this week.

2. A safety issue, LMFAO.
These idiots think putting up a no parking sign will keep protesters away.

4. Bush won't be safe from Cindy Sheehan without this law
That's why it is a "safety" issue.

5. A few "no parking" signs won't quell a legal civil protest
even in McLennan County, Texas. They'll just have to shoot us next time, I guess.

WACO, Texas (AP) - Two weeks after Cindy Sheehan left her anti-war campsite by the road leading to President Bush's ranch, county commissioners have banned parking along 23 miles of roads in the area.

Before the 4-1 vote Tuesday, McLennan County Commissioner Ray Meadows said about 80 residents had complained of blocked roads, loud music and public health and safety concerns during the 26-day protest near Bush's ranch outside Crawford, about 20 miles west of Waco.

``It's not a First Amendment issue. It's a safety issue,'' Meadows said, adding that ``no parking'' signs could be put up this week.

Sheehan began camping in ditches near Bush's ranch Aug. 6, vowing to stay until his monthlong vacation ended unless he talked to her about the Iraq war that claimed her son Casey's life.

He's the troublemaker.

What did they expect after Rove arranged the purchase of the dirt farm?

13. Two issues to come:
What of the dreaded "nanny state" that conservatives hate because it watches out for "safety" when its my god given right to ride a motorcycle w/o a helmet? Safety? Gee Crawford, real Conservatives spit on "safety" don't they?

Shuttle buses? Keep dreaming. The use of shuttle systems will lead immediately to a "no stopping" ordinance---safety don't ya know. I garan-damn-tee that. (Obviously I've lived in Texas long enough to anticipate the next move....)

I'm thrilled with their new dedication to public safety in central Texas. What a friggin joke.

16. cool. this will raise the public support for Cindy's cause so that
things will be much more comfortable down there in Crawford. imagine buses driving everyone in and out of the protest areas, and everyone bedding down in nice hotels at night, away from the violent rethug pickup truck-driving lawbreakers who want to kill the protesters.

17. Most people
parked in town and to the shuttles. A special thanks to the rancher neighbor that gave use of HIS PROPERTY to set up. What a pizzer. It was an extremely peaceful gathering and we all got to bed at a decent hour (maybe because most of us had grey hair). Wish you all could have been there...I will always look back and say I was glad I went.
