Barbara Bush praises outpouring of support

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A week after drawing criticism with comments about Hurricane Katrina evacuees, Barbara Bush focused on the nation's outpouring of support for those in need.

During a ceremony at Maine Medical Center, the former first lady said Wednesday that Americans have shown compassion following the devastation of the hurricane. The United States isn't perfect, she said, but the nation never stops trying to make life better for its citizens.

"If you don't believe this, then look at the outpouring of care and money and comfort our great country has given to the victims of Hurricane Katrina," she said.

Mrs. Bush was criticized last week when she suggested, while visiting the Houston Astrodome, that poor people from Lousiana being housed there were faring better than before the hurricane struck.

2. How long will it last?
"If you don't believe this, then look at the outpouring of care and money and comfort our great country has given to the victims of Hurricane Katrina," she said.

Yes, the outpouring of support should last well into the next century. Or next week, which ever comes first.

6. Forgive my impertinent question, Mistress of the Pit
But what YOU personally done for the hurricane victims? I mean, it was awfully nice of you to deign to notice them at all, but how much of the Bush family fortune has found its way into the coffers of the Red Cross or any other relief agency?

11. maybe she really is greatful.
With so many common people sending support to the Katrina victims, Babs and her ilk may be able to hold on to their tax cuts. And they are going to make it big on the rebuilding contracts anyway. So she can only be pleased as punch.

13. The she told a little joke about the white man she caught
rolling bowling balls off the dock in the deep south, and how he was trying to help reduce the population problem by compassionately drowning Negro Eggs..

I've actually been around rich white shitheads that get one too many glasses of expensive wine in them and then TELL JOKES like that..

I usually tell the women doing that, that they are nothing more than prostitutes living in their "johns" big old house, spending his money, doing their and their dogs nails, while the old man is screwing the mexican maid and thinking about trading the old worn out trophy wife in for this year's model..

They actually try to THINK when you say things like that to them, but you have to go easy or they'll stroke out on you :)

When I had a rich witch, not unlike Babs show me your VERY expensive pearl necklace, explaining that the pearls were so expensive because the area where these beauties grow so large is getting too polluted and killing off all the oysters, I almost slapped the fancy case right out of her hand..

I had to leave the room. The evil of ignorance seems to be worse at times, and the trivial minds can be the most dangerous of all.

28. The Bushes don't have a mansion in Houston....
Babs & Bush Sr built a house on a smallish lot they owned in a gated community. They have never invested in Texas land--Bush's official address during his presidency was a fancy hotel.

Outpouring of support for the nation's poor should be a policy of all branches of government, expecially the federal 24/7.

29. Barb was mentioned in the Houston Press's Katrina Kwiz...
6. Former first lady Barbara Bush famously declared, "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas...And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them." This:

a. Means Babs won't be interviewed again until she has a really, really well prepared response for this.

b. Isn't as bad as when she said she wouldn't trouble her "beautiful mind" worrying about body bags from Iraq.

c. Shows that different folks can define "working very well for them" different ways.

d. Pretty much sums up the Bush mind-set.

Here's the rest of it:

30. God, is there nothing above those pearls?
If her son's administration hadn't yanked the levee funding, there would be no need for any "outpouring".

You son's administration essentially killed a shitload of people. Idiot.
