US urges Americans to avoid Afghanistan over vote

WASHINGTON, Sept 16 (Reuters) - The United States warned its citizens on Friday not to travel to Afghanistan and said it was very concerned about the threat of attacks on foreigners in the run-up to Sunday's elections.

The State Department issued a public announcement voicing concern about "terrorist actions" that could include suicide attacks, assassinations, hijackings, bombings or kidnappings.

"Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets," said the State Department. The latest announcement supplements long-standing warnings on Afghanistan that were issued previously and it is due to expire Oct. 14.

There has been a spate of attacks and kidnappings in the run-up to Sunday's parliamentary and provincial polls.

Sorry Honey, Bush said we need to cancel our family vacation. Let's see if there any deals for Qatar on TravelZoo.com :-)
