Police, Protesters Prepare For Anti-War Demonstration
Thousands To Converge On White House

WASHINGTON -- Police and protesters are preparing for this weekend's anti-war demonstration near the White House.

Protesters began making signs and banners this past weekend. D.C. Police and U.S. Park Police canceled days off next weekend.

Several hundred officers will be on hand for the demonstration, which will be the first allowed to surround the White House in more than a decade.

A range of groups opposed to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the administration of President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq will come together Friday to begin four days of protest.

...

Police said up to 100,000 people are expected to join the demonstration.

4. Hope you get a good turnout
Hope you get a good turnout for the protests. I've been to a few here in Britain, which were huge. The protest in London when Bush came to visit was a fantastic experience, thousands of people just stopped in front of Downing Street shouting "Shame on you". The route of the march was altered slightly after everyone had been moved along.

17. Welcome to DU!!
We hope so, too.

I think there'll be more than a few Katrina relief advocates there, as well.

I hope it's SEVERAL hundred thousand, and I hope they KEEP the White House surrounded. And Dear GOD, I hope there's decent coverage...

I'll be there in spirit with all the good people who are standing up for freedom. I'll be tuning in for news on the day from "across the pond".

9. That would be good
Meant to say in my last post as well that there's a Fire Bush demo going on right outside the White House as well, from www.firegeorge.org:

Checkmate in 10 days: Fire George on 9/24
www.FireGeorge.org
Spread the word: www.firegeorge.org
Bushville, DC and the 9/24 March
will join in a
Massive Act of Nonviolent Civil Disobedience.

On 9/24 the citizens of Bushville, DC and the Marchers will peacefully encircle the White House to Fire George.

We will shout “SHAME SHAME SHAME…” the whole crowd in synch, waving pink slips at him, over and over for as long as it takes.

Spend 10 minutes today spreading www.firegeorge.org

Doesn’t it feel good to say “Fire George!” - to type www.firegeorge.org ?

George has no shame - he’s the Fear President. But surrounded by 100,000 Americans chanting their “SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! …” he will shrink like a bully. It will send him scuttling out of town.

We will call that ring of Americans the Circle of Pride.

Found it the other day. Not sure if UfPJ, and ANSWER are officially promoting this or not though?

10. Watch how many "trouble-makers" pose as "protesters"
and see how many "arrested" can be traced back to Freeptardia.

The security is really needed because of the counter-protesters . . .

11. With 100,000 or a million people. What do we do, then?
We march, we listen to speeches and concerts Saturday and Sunday. Come Monday, the 26th, there will be direct action.

Is this to be Seattle '99, Prague '68 or Prague '89? Will it end up with rubber bullets and pepper spray, tanks in the street, or a Velvet Revolution?

16. Of which the press will make up the excuse when asked...
Well, uh, the police told us it was only a few thousand people, we don't do head counts. It is their standard excuse.

18. Man, do I wish I could be there......
I went to one anti-Bush demonstration and it was amazing! This one will be bigger I'm sure, though the media will downplay it.

I will be there in spirit.

I'll be glued to the computer and TV on the 24th. It'll be interesting to see how much media coverage this gets. Good luck to everyone who will be attending - stay safe!
