GOVERNOR TO PRESIDENT: STAY AWAY UNTIL AFTER VOTE
GOVERNOR TO PRESIDENT: STAY AWAY UNTIL AFTER VOTE
/ State GOP fears Bush fundraiser will cause 'donor fatigue' for special election
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Wednesday, September 21, 2005
Sacramento -- Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Tuesday he wants President Bush to delay a planned October fundraising visit to California because the governor fears it will siphon off donations he needs to help his Nov. 8 special election measures.

"In the next two months, it would be better if we just do the fundraising," Schwarzenegger said in an interview with The Chronicle. "Then let us go (past) our special election -- and then they can pick it up again, the (Republican) national committee."

Schwarzenegger stressed that he and Bush have "a terrific relationship" and added, "the president is always welcome in our state. Any way I can help him, I will help him."

But in an interview with The Chronicle, Schwarzenegger acknowledged the huge pressure to raise millions of dollars for the three measures he has backed in the special election. The governor said that effort will be made more difficult if the Republican president goes forward with a fundraiser for the national party scheduled Oct. 22 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

3. Bingo!!!
If the logic was to not syphon funds Arnold would stop all hurricane relief events too.

Nope, he's distancing himself from the Prez.

5. I really don't think he wants to
be seen with the chimp in Blue California but if he called off "hurricane relief events".. the shovelnator would be exposed for the egocentric narcissistic buffoon he is.

10. Of course
I was being a bit facetious. Sorry; I didn't make that clear.

Just that the excuse seems bogus to me.

6. this is key, I think.
Arnohld is just the least diplomatic repug....if he's doing this, the other repugs are thinking it. I don't think there will be any "coattails" in 2006.

(snidely whiplash voice) wonderful! I love it when they eat their own!"

7. God, I hope that is his fate
:P

No TV, no movies, put him somewhere so I never have to see his name or face again.

While you're at it, please put Michael Jackson there too. And Paris Hilton.

Thanks!

8. Yeah, "donor fatigue," that's the ticket!
And not anything to do with Bush's abysmal poll numbers. Not that Ah-nuld's numbers are much better right now, but two incompetent losers will doom his little ballot measures to a loss of such gut-churning proportions that even Diebold can't paper them over.
