France reiterates will not send troops to Iraq
This must be for the slow learners?

ATHENS, Oct 24 (Reuters) - France on Friday reiterated it would not send troops to Iraq to help relieve stretched U.S.-led forces facing a drawn-out guerrilla campaign.

"We are a part of the humanitarian effort but there is no question of sending troops," French Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie told Reuters after a meeting with her Greek counterpart Yiannos Papandoniou.

The United States succeeded earlier this month in getting the U.N. Security Council to adopt a resolution to set up a U.S.-led multinational force and persuade other countries to send troops and money to Iraq.

But many countries are reluctant to send troops. France, Russia and Germany, which opposed the U.S.-led war, said the resolution should have done more to expand the United Nations' political role and speed up the transfer of power to Iraqis.

2. I thought France, Germany and Russia
voted for the UN resolution. Just trying to be smart. It shows that the hyped up resolution in reality means nothing. Go France at least there is someone who has balls to stand up to the bully in town.

3. Reminds me of the scene with Marcel Marceau in Brooks' Silent Movie
Brooks: Will you be in our movie?
Marceau: No! (hangs up)
Feldman: What did he say?
Brooks: I don't know, it was in French.

4. There is also a problem of
sending troops into a war zone. Foreign countries are caught in a dilemma of trying to stay on Washington's 'good side', while at the same time they are under intense pressure not to send their troops into a dangerous, no-win combat zone.

These officials have to deal with their own re-election issues, and they do not want to take the risk of angering their own constituents.

As opposed to the US.

5. The French -- o-la-la
I have always loved the French. They are a classy country. Now I know why. I'd rather live in a chocolate-making country than a nuclear-bomb-making country. Vive la France!
