Five U.S. troops killed in Iraq attacks (1,944)
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Four U.S. soldiers and a Marine have been killed in attacks in Iraq, military officials said Tuesday.

The deaths were announced on the same day as U.S.-led forces launched offensives in the western province of Anbar, where four of the troops died.

Three soldiers from the 2nd Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) died from injuries sustained in a blast Monday, officials said.

All three were involved in combat operations near the Anbar city of Haqlaniya, a statement said, but it was unclear whether the same roadside bomb killed all three.

Separately, a U.S. Marine was killed in action Monday by a roadside bomb in the Anbar city of Karabila, the military said. The Marine was assigned to the same combat team as the soldiers and was involved in Operation Iron Fist. (Watch: Marines battle insurgents in Karabila. (Viewer discretion advised) -- 2:28)

A U.S. soldier with the Army's 56th Brigade Combat Team died Monday from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound near Taqaddum in central Iraq, a military statement said. The incident is under investigation.

Since the beginning of the Iraq war, 1,944 U.S. troops have died.

1. It's weird that CNN and AP now have three more killed than icasualties
icasualties usually has the higher number than the mainstream press. Who are these three that icasualties hasn't counted? icasualties remains at 1941.

This is built on last week, when AP had 1936, while icasualties had 1933.

Strange...

10. You know, I asked the same thing
when we hit 500 dead, and then at 1000, and then at 1500. Now, we're on the doorstep of 2000 dead, and thousands of forgotten wounded, and I don't think people will pay attention, not yet anyway.

I really don't think there is a magic number so to speak that people will wake up and ask what the hell is going on. One was too many, how many more? I don't know.

4. How many more have died en route to the hospital?
This number is based on soldiers who've died on the battlefield but what about the ones who are sent off to Germany to heal and never leave?

6. Bzzzzzzzzzzt....WRONG
The number includes those who have died in hospital in Germany and the US. You've received false information, and now you're spreading it. Edicate yourself, please.

Here's a list of those who died of wounds in German and American hospitals. They are INCLUDED in the total war dead:

5.  I had a morbid
prediction a while back. Only when deaths in Iraq match deaths from 9-11 will a real public outcry begin. I hope I am wrong, because theat means a lot more senseless murder, because of B**, will occur.

12. I think people need to SEE what's
going on. That's why they hide the flag draped coffins, funerals, the reality, the true horror.
People saw the victims in New Orleans right there on their tv sets and became enraged.
Some~probably most~ have to see it before there own eyes before it registers.

13. During Vietnam, there were journalists brave enough to report..
from dangerous areas. Now we get Pentagon press releases from the relative safety of the Green Zone. If you want to know what's going on in Iraq, go to foreign sources on the net.

15. I was in my twenties then and remember what you are saying.
People saw and knew what was going on. Now, as you said, people are not getting the reality of this.

Unfortunately,so many today watch the useless, covering bush's** ass tv "news" and don't get any other information. If only they would go to other sources and learn the truth.

16. Iraq Violence Leaves 5 U.S. Soldiers Dead
HADITHA, Iraq - U.S. troops pushed through streets sown with bombs Tuesday in their biggest operation this year in western Iraq, seeking to retake three Euphrates River towns from al-Qaida insurgents. At least five U.S. service members have been killed in the fighting. Operation River Gate — launched at the start of the holy month of Ramadan — was the second U.S. offensive in a week in Anbar province, near the Syrian border. Al-Qaida in Iraq called for intensified attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces during the Muslim period of fasting, which started Tuesday for the nation's Sunnis.

19. When jackass idealogues resort to the "support the troops" mantra...
I get in their face and say the following:

"How dare you hide behind the lives of American young men and women in uniform who are now in harm's way because of this President's illegal and ill-managed war! How dare you ask if I support the troops as a way to avoid the reality that your President took the lives of 2,000 young Americans for his own political gain!

20. Yes, R.I.P.
Will this nightmare ever end?

They shall not grow old,
As we who have known them grow old.
Nor shall the passing condemn them.
At the coming up of the sun in the morning
And at its going down at night,
We shall remember them.
