US Supreme Court to weigh 'death with dignity' case
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US Supreme Court will hear arguments for and against euthanasia on Wednesday when it reviews a "death with dignity" law from the state of Oregon in a case that could have far-reaching consequences.

The court's decision will be followed closely, as other states are considering similar laws, including California.

A lower court has already ruled that the Oregon law, which permits terminally ill patients to receive lethal doses of medication, is constitutional.

But President George W. Bush's administration, supported by religious groups, has tried for three years to overturn the 1997 law.

2. I hope they support the lower court. The fears that it will be used to
kill off handicapped people is ridiculous in my opinion. People who are dying should have the right to decide that they have endured enough.

3. Hey, only the Homeland Security, under Patriot Act provisions, gets
to decide when someone dies.
