Editor & Publisher: Indictments in Plame Case Could Come Any Time

NEW YORK Is it the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning? Whatever way you look at it, it seems clear to many in Washington right now that indictments in the Valerie Plame affair will likely be announced soon, possibly on Thursday.

Note to editors and reporters: As the aspens turn, don't stray too far from your desks, cells or Blackberries.
(snip)

As a first step, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was expected to notify officials by letter if they have become targets, said the lawyers, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

14. Having had experience with the Clinton/Monica grand jury...
...by way of working with the (attorneys for the) media coalitions who constantly battled for court access, I've got to say I'm very, very impressed with the complete lack of leaks coming from Fitzgerald's office. Starr's folks leaked like crazy (and ultimately drew the wrath of Judge Holloway-Johnson, who hated the media to begin with), which I always thought indicative of their general lack of ethics.

Fitzgerald has been the polar opposite, and that's a very good thing.

16. He certainly seems to be taking this very seriously--
there may be a lot to digest when we finally hear about what's going on.

17. The difference is...
...that Starr needed to leak tawdry, scandalous tidbits to keep the whole soap opera alive, because he didn't have anything but Clinton lying about consensual sex in the Oval Office.

Fitzgerald, on the other hand (hopefully) knows he has something, and doesnn't want to let the cat out of the bag so the GOP spin doctors can try to sway the court of public opinion...
