Thune to keep DeLay PAC money

By Celeste Calvitto, Journal Staff Writer
WASHINGTON — The South Dakota Democratic Party joined its counterparts in several other states Wednesday in asking Republican politicians to return contributions from one of indicted Rep. Tom DeLay's political action committees.

The state Democratic Party called on Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., to donate money he received from Americans for a Republican Majority, DeLay's federal PAC, to charity.

It is DeLay's state PAC, Texans for a Republican Majority, that is the focus of indictments from two Texas grand juries.

Nick Nemec, South Dakota Democratic Party national committeeman, said in a news release, "Sen. Thune indicated that his tenure in office was going to be centered on values. How can he represent values while hoarding tainted funds other Republicans can't give back fast enough? Sen. Thune should follow his colleagues' lead and donate DeLay's dirty money to the hurricane relief effort," Nemec said.

"Here we go again," Thune spokesman Kyle Downey said. "A small group of partisans are ignoring Sen. Thune's accomplishments for South Dakota such as saving Ellsworth Air Force Base, delivering record highway funding and getting a long-stalled energy bill passed. This is a partisan attempt to link contributions from past campaigns to current political witch hunts," he said.

1. Who the hell cares about Ellsworth AFB
If Thune touches DeLay money, he's finished. Time to recall him or whatever the hell South Dakotans do to remove a moron off.

2. Gee, I thought they were the "moral majority" that's what they
said. They are supposed to be all about "family values." What's up with keeping the tainted money?
