10/05/05 FOX Poll: Rudy in 2008? Giuliani Tops 'Strong Leader' List

NEW YORK — After the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center (search), then New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (search) was commonly referred to as "America’s Mayor." The latest FOX News poll finds that many Americans remember Giuliani's leadership in a time of crisis and rate him higher than several other potential 2008 presidential contenders as a "strong and decisive leader." In addition to candidate attributes, the new poll also looks at some possible presidential matchups for the next election.

Almost two-thirds of voters (65 percent) think Giuliani is a "strong and decisive leader," and majorities think that characterization also applies to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., (56 percent), Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice (55 percent), President Bush (51 percent) and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. (51 percent). Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and former Vice President Al Gore (search) come in well below the others, with majorities saying the term "strong and decisive leader" does not apply to them.

In pre-election polling, Bush consistently bested Democratic challenger Kerry on the strong leader quality. In this week’s poll, 51 percent say they think Bush is a strong leader and 46 percent say he is not, while 35 percent think the term describes Kerry and 56 percent disagree.

Among Democrats, 76 percent think the term "strong leader" applies to Clinton, 60 percent to Kerry and 45 percent to Gore. Just over half of Democrats think the trait is true for McCain (52 percent) and Giuliani (51 percent), while fewer than one in five think so for Bush (16 percent).

7. We need to remind them LOUDLY about how they were soooo against
someone with the slightest hint of an affair . . .

They'll bring up Clinton, saying "He, he did it."

Well, Rudy did it AFTER Clinton's expose - and then in 2004, the reichwingers tried to tie Kerry to an "affair" - so it still must be an issue to the Righties . . .

4. I wonder if Faux will show the photos of Rudy in drag?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 09:46 AM by CottonBear
If he actually runs for any office, we should plaster that photo everywhere.
Also, we should mention that he's committed adultery and had gay room mates.

edit: Not that's there's anything wrong with having a gay room mate.

I think I saw the photo in Vanity Fair.

8. Giuliani is a crook and a vendictive, mean-spirited man.
And there is certainly enough speculation to wonder his very convenient placed presence in London and New York during 9/11 and the London bombings.

In short, he is not any hero in many eyes.

12. Yeah, right, Guiliani. The repubs are going to start floating the
candidates who don't have a snowball's chance and let the MSM do its hachet job.

The actual repub presidential candidate won't be mentioned for another 6 months to a year and, even then, only parenthetically.

Guiliani is a good distraction, though. MKJ

Yeah, he's right on track to be the 2008 nominee for the Repubs w/o a doubt. (sarc).

So does McCain.

You don't see Hillary or Kerry plastering their faces on TV all the time like these two whores. I have yet to understand their appeal.

20. Giuliani has qualities to offend just about everyone.
He was widely hated and only marginally respected (reducing crime by being a fascist) in NYC before 9-11.

The dress-wearing, gay-tolerating adulterer is the guy they're going to use to win the South?

Ha.

21. More and more, Gore looks good for '08.
I haven't really thought about it until recently, but I think Gore would smash most of the republican favorites flat as long as he stays on the offense and harps on the moral and fiscal irresponsibility of the current admin.

Rudy Giuliani is Catholic, divorced, a known adulterer, pro-choice, pro-gun control & possibly pro-gay rights, though I'm not sure about that last one.

Anyway, the fundies & gun nuts would never accept him.

24. Best way to Gulianni might be through Kerik. Kerik was really
dirty and no one believes that story about not paying taxes on the maid. Guy was a bodyguard, bankrupt, now a multi-millionaire. Anyone know more about their relationship and who got rich and how?
