Bill would divide 9th Circuit Court
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is a co-sponsor of a bill aiming to create two federal courts out of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, whose jurisdiction includes Alaska.
Murkowski, R-Alaska, said the federal court needs to be divided in two because it is too large and unwieldy.

The San Francisco-based court itself disagrees.

The 9th Circuit spans Alaska, eight other Western states and the Pacific Islands. Senate Bill 1845 — co-sponsored with Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev. — would split the court in two, retaining California, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands as the 9th Circuit and creating a new 12th Circuit comprising Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Arizona.

3. Exactly, how many judges would that be?
They'd prolly split the 9th court judges and maybe shif some in from other districts but there would still be 9 or 12 or 15 or however many new appointments, no frikkin way!

2. Fuckers
Bush's appointments to the lower courts, which have been virtually unopposed will be more harmful in the long run than his Supreme Court appointments.

This is just one more right wing power play.

Fuckers. x(

5. That split makes NO sense whatsoever
I think it'll be rejected. 9th Circuit Court is just fine as it is.

6. And just where would the 12th Fascist Court be located?
a new 12th Circuit comprising Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Arizona.

so that lawyers, witnesses etc. could reach it from all those far-flung states? Seattle? Kind of a haul from NV or AZ...

7. The 9th Circuit is probably
too large, but I don't want to split it under this president.

Conversely the 5th Circuit is 3 states -- LA, MS, and TX, and should probably be merged with the 2nd circuit (AL, FL, and GA).

10. This is bull shit.
"too large and unwieldy." = "we don't like the decisions it makes, so we're going to slice it up to try and castrate it."

12. Simply a quest for improved efficiency. Yup, that's all.
Ever notice how repukes always have to lie about their motives. conceal their real intentions? Look at any issue they're peddling, and 9 times out of 10 they're engaged in some kind of subterfuge.

14. if they're going to split it, then Washington and Oregon and probably
Alaska should be in the same circuit as California, Hawaii and the Pacific islands

or keep Nevada and Arizona with California and have the northwest states as one circuit

right now, this plan is to split the more liberal Washington and Oregon from the liberal California

it's based on ideology and not any real geographic or other logical reasons
