Waterlogged Guatemalans Slam President Berger
Waterlogged Guatemalans Slam President Berger

Guatemala, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Still unrecovered from damages caused by tropical storm Stan, the Guatemalan people said Thursday President Oscar Berger and his cabinet have been incompetent in their attempts to minimize effects of this fierce tempest.

According to today's reports, the number of victims here has skyrocketed from 136,609 to 205,769 due to last week's heavy rains.

At least 1,200 Guatemalan children, most of them of indigenous origin, were orphaned as a consequence of Stan's severe damages.

Social activists, professionals, farmers, indigenous people and others strongly criticized the president's attitude regarding the meteorological phenomenon.

According to Jose Guillermo Garcia, interviewed by Cadena Sonora radio, "the State does not have mid and long term planning, not even a short-term strategic working plan, which is the main tool for any official."

1. It's late, and my eyes are playing tricks on me...
but I read that headline as:

Watermelons slam President Berger

I think it's time for bed :)

2. Don't "fun" on Guatemalans
The Mayan civilization predates us by thousands of years. Bye the bye, I lived there during the late fifties, when the CIA was attempting to destabilize the country. I was actually in the ambassador's residence, my parents were overnight guests when a nearby ministry building was bombed. Us kids were scared shitless. My doctor was the minister of health. I threw up on his shoes. I kid you not.
