U.S. to Deal `Seriously' With Syria Link to Killing (Bolton)
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 02:42 PM by allemand
Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. will deal ``seriously'' with Syria if a United Nations investigation finds the country had a role in the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, said John Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the UN.

A UN team headed by German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis is due to report its findings within two weeks. Hariri, a five-time prime minister of Lebanon, was killed by a bomb in February. Syria, which ended a 29-year military presence in Lebanon in April, has denied involvement.

``If, as many people believe, the report implicates people in the assassination, people outside Lebanon, then it should be dealt with very seriously,'' Bolton said in London today. ``If in the end, it takes us into Syria, the Mehlis investigation, we're prepared to back him up.''

On edit:
"Serious consequences" is diplo-speak for military action, but I wonder if Bolton knows diplo-speak...

8. The neo-cons can beat their chests and continue to bluster
Other than that, not much.

Syria would unleash the hounds of hell (Hamas and Hezzbollah) on the U.S. troops in the Middle East.

4. I suppose this will be as realiable as the yellowcake data
or the unmanned bioweapons carrying drone
or the mobile bioweapons lab
or the aluminum tubes

With the help of "friends in the region, Syria is an opponent that we can pummel.
Then we turn Lebanon and Syria over to a coalition of "Regional Control"

13. yeah yeah yeah
this 'assassination' thing is just one more flimsy excuse, but just wait, they'll make it sound like the syrians have an army of paid ninja assassisns. and that it was them that breached the levies in new orleans. it'll be high farce. they don't give one fiddly fuck what the syrians or anyone else does until it serves their purposes.
