Two coalition soldiers killed in Iraq

Roadisde bomb kills British soldier in southern Iraq, US soldier killed
by makeshift bomb in Al Iskandariyah.



LONDON - A British soldier was killed overnight by a roadside bomb in
southern Iraq, a defense ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

The man died from injuries sustained in the blast shortly before
midnight Tuesday in Basra, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a US soldier was killed by a makeshift bomb while on patrol
in Al Iskandariyah, north of Baghdad, the US military said Wednesday in
a statement.

Two soldiers were wounded in the attack, which took place late Tuesday,
and were being treated at a hospital, the statement said.

biggest disappointment in the whole government considering where he has come from.

What is it with all the old communists and trotskyists in this government - Ried, Byers, Milburn et al. They have certainly travelled a long way - about as far right as former left socialists like Blunkett, Straw, Brown, Beckett and many others, who had a little less distance to travel.

Have they been corrupted, bought off, or what?

the issues are complex but it is indicative of how politics as a whole has shifted rightwards in the UK.

Having gained power through attracting a disaffected middle class they can't backtrack for fear of losing votes. Maybe it's just political reality.

Whatever the reason it is a sad phenomenon. And the irony is that a party that grew out of a socialist movement joined in with the neocons in the Bush administration to invade Iraq.

We live in a crazy world julianer.
