Bush Says New Scores Show Education Reforms Work

WHITE HOUSE (AP) -- President Bush says the latest test results for America's fourth- and eighth-graders show his education overhaul plan is working.

However, he acknowledges the scores also show there's "more work to do" when it comes to reading.

This year's National Assessment of Educational Progress shows a four-percentage-point gain over last year in fourth-grade math scores and a one-point gain in eighth.

However, there was essentially no progress in fourth-grade reading while in eighth grade, the percentage reading at grade level actually dropped.

8. Unfortunately,
they have temporarily derailed the system and it will take years to get back to normal. What he should have done was give each of the students a crib...I'm sure he knows what that is...and that would immediately bring those scores up so he could gloat. Jerk!

7. That I believe!

They are leaving Education Behind.
The plan has got to go.

Children are no plants, they should not be totally concerned with the Bush tests.

If Bush is an example of a beautiful education, forget it.

Just like the "successful" War in Iraq where the insurgents are in control.

17. In the * way of thinking, this is a success.
Permanent underclass, here we come... :(

Made easier by the fact that the kids now can't read well enough to do much more than put their figurative "X" on the social contract.

10. Typical Reboff tactic, flash the straws ...
grasping at / up holding the straw of their policy that actually may be true. "Facts are meaningless! You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true." Homer Simpson.
