Senator seeks explanation from Bush in case of outed CIA spy

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A top Democratic senator called on US
President George W. Bush to reveal what, if anything, he knew about the involvement of senior White House officials in outing the identity of an undercover CIA agent.

In a letter to the president, Democratic Senator Charles Schumer cited press reports alleging that Bush reportedly had spoken with his Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove about the case involving outed spy Valerie Plame in 2003.

In comments to the press however "the White House issued emphatic and blanket denials of any involvement in the disclosure or confirmation of Ms. Plames status as a CIA agent," Schumer wrote.

"In light of these reports, I urge you to make public the details of Mr. Roves involvement, your understanding of that involvement, and an explanation as to why Mr. Rove was neither dismissed nor his security clearance revoked when you learned of his participation in the Plame affair."

2. Congressional Hearings, please!!
We need the equivalence of the Senate Watergate Hearings.
We also need resolutions of inquiry in the House Judiciary Committee.

We need them to start now.

12. We do not need hearings which might
tend to give immunity to any perps for their testimony. That happened in Iran Contra and Ollie North walked because of his immunity. Let Fitz do his thing first.

26. Absolutely, perhaps the White House is angeling and hoping for
a hearing for that exact reason.

39. Easy to understand why
yhey might want them: to get immunity. However, the WH could have arranged to have hearings at any time over the course of this thing AND to give immunity to whoever was involved.

"Speaker Hastert, we need hearings."
"Got 'em"
"Good Doggie"
"Now, we need blanket immunity for this list of people"
"Got it .. gee that's a loooong list. Anything else"
"Catch this frisbee with your teeth ... Good Doggie.

Now that things are falling apart, it may be harder to get, though I'm sure they can still get the leadership of the House to roll over and play dead.

8. Ok, good start
BUT, he and others need to be asking this on the talk shows, radio, everywhere!
Say it loud and say it often. Raise this to the public's consciousness until the Media Whores can't ignore it any longer.
Happy though, to read on Yahoo and I gave it a 5.

He was on the daily show not too long ago. And John asked him a question to the effect of ~ what are 08 hopefulls doing now to prepare and he said well.. Im here on this show. John didnt pry... but I definintely got the impression that hes thinking of running. And he certainly seems to be stepping up.

edit to add: he was great on the show, IMO. I enjoyed him more than the recent Edwards interview.

Members of the House have been holding the torch for months. 'bout time it was handed off to the Senate.

You know what, though? If the Propagandist hadn't issued that Executive Order ending the Senate Investigative Committee, we would be on track to find out what we were supposed to know before the election last year!

33. I have watched Sen Schumer on various programs
like Week in Review on Fox, or other programs on PBS etc. He is always well spoken, intelligent, and fearless. He really holds feet to the fire. He has New York written all over him, so I don't know how he would sell in the South, but I have grown to like and respect him. He is on the judicial comittee and nixed John Roberts and many of the bone headed judicial appointments. He seems to vote true DEM and is a potential DWAS (Democrat with a spine).

43. I agree
I don't watch the programs, so don't know about that, but Schumer has been one of the most vocal true Dem senators. At least in the past year or two, since I started actually paying attention. He's my senator, as Hillary is, and to be honest, I haven't seen much out of Hillary. Schumer, on the other hand, is growing more and more spine as the nightmare of the * administration goes on. I too have grown to like and respect him, for the same reasons you mentioned ("well spoken, intelligent, and fearless"), and I thought I was the only one who'd noticed.

I feel that of my two senators, he's the one standing up for me. I don't like to bash any dem, and I like Hillary ok, but I really haven't seen her do anything that makes her stand out from anyone else. Schumer does - he's been vocal, and he's getting even more so. It's good to see him speaking out, and I hope he doesn't let up.

The funniest thing about Chuck Schumer is that even "stauch republican" voters such as my parents in NY LOVE Chuck Schumer!!! He is very liberal, but is a straight shooter, and he won NY with, like, 71% of the vote last time. Everyone but the most insane partisans love him. :-)
