Rumsfeld Orders Independent Levee Probe

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has ordered that an independent panel of experts evaluate the performance of New Orleans area levees during Hurricane Katrina.

In recent weeks, the government has come under criticism for allowing the Army Corps of Engineers to be in charge of investigating its own work.

Rumsfeld directed Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey to form a panel of engineering and atmospheric experts under the direction of the National Academy of Sciences, the Pentagon said in a statement Wednesday.

I want to believe that this is a sincere effort to do the right thing.

But why is a Defense Secretary doing this? This sounds like something for civil authorities to announce.

I think the White House is missing a rudder right now.

It's Rumsfeld - that man has NEVER done the right thing - EVER in his whole entire life. This will probably be to muffle and control any damaging (blown up) information.

but even right here at DU some were saying that it is stupid to even entertain the notion that the levees were played with at all.

I think that 2 % may be a big part of the reason.
The other reason could be that at the MMM just about every speaker talked about the levees and the racism that they believed to be involved with Katrina.

The good Dr. Cornel West was so mad he turned red about the way we were treated in NO!

When LF came on and blasted Bush,FEMA and everyone that was in the crooked government about Katrina and the levees, he came out swinging!! The crowd was solidly behind ALL of their leaders on Katrina.

People were cheering, "REGIME CHANGE"!

It was a true, "No Justice, no Peace!" issue at the MMM and the levees being played with is BELIEVED in the Black community.

It was and is a true TRUTH to POWER issue.

Remember that John Conyers was solidly behind the March and was there to reinforce strategies I am sure.

And one more reason that Rummy may have decided to "check into or White Wash the levees" was a STRONG Gold Star African American MOM.
She is totally with Cindy and she told the thousands present,"DO NOT SEND YOUR BABIES TO DIE FOR GWB! DO NOT LET THEM GO!"

In African American families,young men DO NOT go against their Mothers! If the Moms start marching in front of the recruitment centers, look out!
