BAGHDAD, Iraq � An 82d Airborne Division soldier died of a non-hostile gunshot wound at a forward operating base near Fallujah at approximately 12:10 a.m. on October 28.

The soldier�s name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The incident is under investigation

The Pentagon's use of language has a strong Orwellian flavor. People that are injured when their Humvee hits a mine are referred to as vehicular accident victims.

9. Pretty sure the officers who were fragged in Kuwait at the start...

...of the invasion were classified as non-hostile gunshot wounds too? I don't understand all the suicides to be honest with you. A bullet in the foot would get them home and still breathing at least. My father has told me that during WW II that shooting oneself was a pretty common occurrence. But he has also said that a bullet in the CO's back from one or more his own guys was pretty common too. He said he never heard of a suicide back then.

10. Lots of self inflicted wounds over there

A buddy of mine, a doc in the reserve, was just activated. He is working in a military hospital stateside. He says there are 600 (!) wounded there, with many self-inflicted.

I don�t think these guys are getting the support they need � from the government or the citizenry.
