Women accuse Sen. Burns R- MT of Sexism **NW flight attendants**

McElvaney said she approached the lawmaker with her concerns about outsourcing during a Sept. 25 flight from Great Falls to Minneapolis. When McElvaney asked what she would do if she lost her job, Burns replied she could stay home and be a mother, she said.

McElvaney did not reply.

But Kari Johnke-Henzler, a flight attendant from Minneapolis, who listened to the exchange, said she told Burns what both she and McElvaney were thinking: "I am a mother. However, I need to support my family."

The two women, both longtime Northwest employees, said many families can no longer rely solely on a husband's income.

I hate that bastard - I think his racist remarks endeared him to some Montanans, but there are not enough fundi-keep the woman at home types to help him out of this one. Did I mention he's an asshole?

3. Did he offer to pay her a salary to stay home?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't a politician who is dependent on people's votes to remain in office at least pretend to care about the employment concerns of his constituents?

4. Ahhhh - that's the beauty of Burns!
He doesn't seem to have to. He hasn't done shit. Nobody knows what the hell he does except promise to let Montanans own as many guns as they possibly can. I don't get it - they elect Baucus every term and then counter it with this bozo.

5. These people don't understand what it is like to be a worker.

The end of the pay cycle pinch is a complete mystery to them. They have heard anecdotal evidence but still can't believe it. Did I mention that they have given themselves $56,203 in raises since 1991?

As for the sexism, it is too stupid to respond to. What a troglodyte.

6. Why does anyone vote for him?
Last summer, watching a Senate Transportation committee hearing with Chertoff, I first saw the Senator. While the other Senators, notably Kerry and Lautenberg were concerned with the failure of securing the ports and other serious issues - notably Kerry's concern that there was still no plan for evacuating port cities in case of a terrorist attack. (Plans were promised under Ridge - but not done - then promised by Chertoff in his confirmation hearings - but not done as promised. )

Burns had concerns too:
- he said that he had ruined a dozen pair of socks - expensive socks too! - because he had to take his shoes off at the airport

and
- he never got back the spurs he had in his carry-on luggage going to DC! (At least one Senator seemed amused by this.)

7. Abramoff's crooked money funnel went right into Burns' campaign funds.
I am banking on Morrison or Tester to clean Burns' clock come November 2006.
