8. I am not sure...and the article seems strange
<snip>
A spokesman said the troops from the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division came under attack while destroying "improvised explosive devices" -- a term the military uses to describe makeshift bombs often left by roadsides to target soldiers.

The death brings to 114 the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed by hostile fire since President Bush (news - web sites) declared major combat over on May 1 in the war that ousted Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) as Iraqi leader.

The attack came on the bloodiest day in Baghdad since Saddam's fall in April. Four suicide bombings killed at least 35 people and wounded 230 in attacks on the International Committee of the Red Cross and three Iraqi police stations.

...this makes it sound like it happened Monday!

16. They are coming so close together now I am unable to tell which is which
Add the media filter and poor reporting to that and there is no way of knowing what is really happening in Iraq anymore. I think if this stuff spreads into the south that will be a very bad sign. If it does, they won't be able to hide that either.

7. 114 COMBAT death post "Mission Accomplished"
Weren't there 114 killed in COMBAT during the actual war?

Will the news media have yet another qualifier to keep the numbers low?

~~"this is the ## death from hostile fire since the number of such deaths post May1 equalled the number during the actual combat phase of the war to liberate Iraq" Oh and NEVER add them up.

9. Soon there will be no more running totals.
Soon it will just be how many died that day or maybe that week...

The total number killed will become "classified" soon. Maybe if we get real lucky they'll do it like they did during Viet Nam and post the number of casualties from each side...

Oh and we as a nation don't seem to give a rat's a** about the lower number of people that are now "liberated".

14. It was the deputy mayor
Faris Abdul Razzaq al-Assam. He was in charge of technical services in the city. He was shot this morning in an apparent drive-by killing.

18. anyone ever hear anything else?
I saw the initial "news flash" coverage where the reporter said that there was a huge explosion like a 1000 pound bomb in Baghdad, then sounds like RPGs and helicopters circling. Reporters were supposedly racing toward the scene, but I never heard anything else the rest of the day. It was somewhere outside the area where the media has HQs - a big enough explosion that it appeared the reporter thought it was remarkable. The car bombs I heard about yesterday were not in Baghdad. I thought maybe there was another attempt to get Saddam via big bomb. I'm still wondering.

19. I really hope it isn't true that the Bushevics want the NGOs and
the press out, 'cause they're not interested in witnesses.
I've read one article from Michel Chossudovsky about the red cross being attacked the second time:

Who was behind the Attack on the Red Cross in Baghdad?

And I just hope, it isn't true!
Hello from Germany,
Dirk
