FOX Poll: Bush Approval Rating Holding Steady (@ 41% approval)

10/27/05 FOX Poll: Bush Approval Rating Holding Steady

NEW YORK — Since August, President George W. Bush (search) has suffered from negative approval ratings, and the latest FOX News poll finds that is still the case today as more Americans disapprove than approve of the job he is doing.

In this week’s FOX News poll, 41 percent of Americans approve and 51 percent disapprove of Bush’s job performance. Moreover, when given the opportunity for a 2004 presidential vote “do over,” Bush receives less support now than he did on Election Day.

Of those that say they voted for Bush in the election, 86 percent say they would still vote for him today and 6 percent would switch their vote to Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry (search).

Bush’s job approval hit a record low of 40 percent in mid-October, when for the first time during his presidency approval among Republicans fell below 80 percent. Today, 79 percent of Republicans approve and 12 percent disapprove. The numbers are reversed among Democrats: 11 percent approve and 84 percent disapprove. For independents, 36 approve and 52 percent disapprove.

2. FOX?
So what are his real numbers? If FAUX is reporting them that low, then one can imagine what the numbers really are.

9. I would not be surprised you would get the same results... however
the worst (from Bush's standpoint) is yet to come.

In a year, he may wax nostalgic for the popularity he has today. Bad as it is now, i think it will get much worse for Bush.

What we need now is to demand the Democratic Party opposes Bush's program. This "stay the course with a few modifications in Iraq" is a disaster for the planet, for Iraq, for the US, for the Democratic Party.

11. Holding steady.
The only reason why it is holding steady, is because through some miracle* gas prices have gone back down to somewhat reasonable levels.

* Shrub placed a call to his buddies in big oil and asked them to take a break from their price gouging.

It is FOX after all. If they say 41 then the real number is more like the low thirties.

18. actually

As a pollwatcher and amateur analyst, the 51% is a serious number and in a way more accurate than the disapproval numbers other pollsters give.

All of Bush's 5-6 fundamental ratings run at 38% at the moment except for 'handling terrorism', which runs at 49%. ('Handling Iraq' is soon to fall under the 38% in a hard way, but that Constitution/elections crap has to fail before the wavering bloc of people fully gives up on the policy and folks behind it.)

What is going on is that 51% of the electorate has given up faith in all Bush policies and the people behind it. 32% are firmly in favor of all of it, another 6% are wavering on some specific things for a total of 38% general support. The remaining 11% are purely with Bush on 'handling terrorism', which is largely magical thinking. Depending on how you poll, a chunk of these 11% can be drawn out to getting that last issue to outweigh the ones objected to and say they support Bush overall.

So it's 51% full disapproval, 38% solid approval overall (though declining), and 11% people who can be drawn into approval and disapproval depending on how important or unimportant 'terrorism' feels.

The 'handling terrorism' thing stays stuck at a number. What makes it decline is a major Al Qaeda attack happening/'succeeding' in a country that matters to Americans. The number feel from 92% on '9/11' to 68% a few months later. The Madrid bombing (April 2004) dropped it to 57% or so in a week or two. The London bombing this summer dropped it to 49% in 2-3 days. AQ attacks in places like Baghdad, Bali, Casablanca, or Istanbul have no effects.

19. Fox has still never reported over 51%

Fox News noted margin of error when Bush approval rating fell, but included no caveat when his numbers rose

Fox News chief White House correspondent Carl Cameron has repeatedly asserted that the drop in President Bush's job approval rating during his second term represents "not much of a slip when you factor in the ... margin of error." Cameron's use of this caveat echoed an earlier effort by Weekly Standard executive editor and Fox News contributor Fred Barnes to downplay Bush's sinking approval ratings. But, in reporting on small increases in Bush's job performance numbers since the beginning of the year, Fox News personalities have not once mentioned the margin of error.

On the June 10 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume, guest host Brian Wilson cited several polls showing Bush's approval rating below 50 percent. >>>>>snip

51% always gives the illusion that 49% still think he's OK.
with a margin of error..pure propaganda

their affiliation I think. If this administration is acceptable to them I have problems believing they're democrats. More like Zell Miller disrupters.
