Pope Condemns Human Trafficking for Sex

Friday October 28, 2005 2:01 PM

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI on Friday condemned the human trafficking that fuels the sex industry and called for just treatment of women migrants.

His appeal came in a message to mark World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which local churches will celebrate Jan. 15.

Benedict said women more often are emigrating autonomously for financial reasons and not just crossing borders to join their husbands or family members, as was the case for many of them in the past.

When women do find work, it is often low-salaried domestic or service job, the pope said. He said they deserved fair treatment ``out of respect for their femininity in recognition of their equal rights.''

9. Which is especially strange because

well, it's been suggested that if *all* gays were removed from the priesthood we'd need a new Pope.

14. It's mind-boggling, isn't it?
I guess he doesn't have any good buddies in the female trafficking biz. Interesting that he doesn't even mention the trafficking of children....I guess he doesn't see a problem with that.

The Catholics have done a LOT regarding human rights violations in the United States...however, it is a sensitive matter and not something one would want to broadcast. This IS the real reason why the Catholic church is being attacked in the U.S. - because the WASPs do not respect the Constitution or people's civil rights. Hell, those people don't even believe in the Declaration of Independence. They'd prefer oligarchy and control over every aspect of our lives...

The church doesn't do PR, and the Catholic-hating WASPs back east who control the media take full advantage of it to destroy the only institution that has refused to co-operate in this matter.

People who are that concerned about 'human trafficking' ought to ask why Catholics' civil rights - especially those of Irish Americans - are being violated and yet the media has never reported this.

Until that is stopped, this is a bunch of hypocrisy.

24. Why not broadcast it?
If they're doing something abou human rights violations in this country, the people should know about it!

And if Irish Americans' (or any Americans') rights are being violated, and you have evidence of this, you should speak up about it rather than keep us shrouded in mystery.

12. Isn't that a gross contradiction??
Respect for femininity / equality

It seems like "Respect for femininity" = "poor vulnerable little girl" which is pretty much the opposite of equality.
