Private study estimates Iraqi war dead at 13,000

WASHINGTON (AFP) - An estimated 13,000 Iraqis, including as many as 4,300 non-combatants, were killed during the major combat phase of the war in Iraq, a research group found in a study made public.

The Project on Defense Alternatives said its estimate was based on a review of US combat data, battlefield press reports, and Iraqi hospital surveys. The study covered the period from March 19 to the end of April.

The Pentagon has refrained from making estimates of Iraqi dead in either the 1991 Gulf War or the latest conflict.

The study, authored by Carl Coneta, found that deaths of Iraqi civilians who did not take up arms in the fighting was as high or higher than in the 1991 Gulf War despite advances in precision weaponry.

1. Thanks. I'm going to save this
for someone who doesn't believe very many Iraqis were killed during
the initial stage of the Invasion.

2. All this needs to get out in the mainstream news

We need to hear the repugs mock the Muslim dead as cannon fodder, or just collateral damage, as we know they will do. THEN we crucify them for their twisted take on that family values thingy they get all anal retentive about.

Edit: Had to add sarcasm in my need to vent.

7. There was one report that estimated 37,000. I am going to
have to find that one. They went door to door and ask family members how many had been killed. It was 5-6,000 per city. It added up fast. And these were the civilians - no soldiers.

8. May they all find peace with God.
These were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and children. In the eyes of God, these are all His children.
