Cheney rallies Georgia's Republican faithful
Vice President Dick Cheney, appearing at a $250-a-plate fund-raiser for former Rep. Max Burns, spoke to supporters Friday of the importance of the Iraq war and judicial appointments but did not mention Friday's indictment and resignation of his chief of staff.

Cheney spoke at a downtown Savannah, Ga., hotel to raise money for Burns' Congressional campaign for the 12th District. Event officials said $140,000 was raised at the lunch, the first of three stops Cheney planned Friday in Georgia. Organizers said 180 people attended the lunch and some of those also donated $2,100 to Burns' campaign to have their picture taken with the vice president.
.....
Many of the luncheon attendees were unaware of the Libby's indictment because they were inside the tightly-secured hotel listening to Cheney's speech when the first announcement of the indictment was made. Also, there were no protesters outside.

"Certainly it's unfortunate but I will tell you that no one is above the law," said Burns of the indictment. "I have great faith and confidence in our judicial system and our courts and I think the special prosecutor has done his job ... anyone who breaks the law should be indicted, prosecuted and punished if they're found guilty."

1. It was sweet...
Being at my job at Robins Air Force Base, and hearing on NPR that Libby was indicted...this about half an hour before Cheney was to speak at a hangar down the street. I kept myself from going to see him because I want to keep my paycheck...but man it would have been nice to be in the crowd and yell out "How's Scooter holding up!!??"

2. How many people were at the
protest? Paper said none. Of course, they always lie.

4. Protest?
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 11:38 PM by Concerned GA Voter
I don't know, like I said, I didn't go there. I left the base aroudnd the time Cheney finished, tho, and I didn't see anyone protesting. I didn't drive past that particular hangar, either, tho.

I have a repug buddy who went...I'll ask him, but I doubt anyone protested. I mean, this was on the Air Force Base. Most of the people there are required to show respect for the likes of Cheney. I mean there are a lot of contract-type people on base, I suppose, but those folks want to keep their jobs, too.

6. oh, thanks
they said the donors had been left in the dark as far as the indictments before Cheney arrived. I wonder if he told them? I doubt that too.

you just give them false hope, and then take their money. you might have to put up a tent first, though.

14. I'm shocked it was only a $250 a plate dinner. They must be desperate.
They normally have $2500 and up per plate.
