TAMPA - Three months after 9/11, a caricature of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld graced the cover of the National Review.

"The Stud," the headline said.

"Don Rumsfeld, America's New Pin-Up."

"Nearly everyone - Republican or Democrat - sees him as the right guy at the right time in the right job," the magazine said.

Times have changed.

In the uncertain aftermath of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Rumsfeld is under fire from all sides. Now his position in the administration seems less secure.

7. Rumsfeld's loose cannon days go back to the Nixon Admin-

I read the other day that MacNamara told Nixon--"dump him".
Good advice for Shrub, whose judgement is hellaciously bad.

8. Success blurs flaws
Rumsfeld was dangerous as soon as he started the job. It was also predictable by his behaivior in the Nixon administration. It was alos part of a sweeping and unexamined overhaul of the Pentagon and the entire defense foreign policy.

The wins glossed over the intrinsic problem of Rumsfeld and the Bushco transformational goals. Nobody is allowed to think or to see, only to praise beating up on the weak or the "bad guys" not like "us".

12. If Rummy goes down, I would bet money that he doesn't go alone
This man is so evil and vile that if the administration decides he is going to take the fall, I don't think he will go down quietly, hence the memo leak. This has the potential to get good!
