Fujimori arrested in Chile: Peru minister
Fujimori arrested in Chile: Peru minister
Mon Nov 7, 2005 1:44 AM ET

By Fiona Ortiz and Robin Emmott

SANTIAGO/LIMA (Reuters) - Peru's disgraced ex-President Alberto
Fujimori, wanted there on human rights abuse and corruption charges,
was arrested during a surprise visit to Chile, Peru's foreign minister
said late on Sunday.

Fujimori, who led Peru from 1990 to 2000, has been a fugitive in his
ancestral homeland Japan since he fled there in November 2000, when a
corruption scandal toppled his government. He flew from Japan to Chile
on Sunday to try to relaunch his political career and run for
president next year.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Oscar Maurtua told reporters in Lima that
Fujimori had been arrested by Chilean police and moved from his hotel.
It was unclear where he had been taken.

"The Chilean courts have just issued an arrest warrant for Alberto
Fujimori following a request by Peru ... He's been arrested," Maurtua
told reporters in a late night briefing.

3. I forgot all about Fujimori
This sounds like a political stunt by Chile. I'm skeptical. I bet Fujimori will be sent back to Japan real soon to continue living the good life. Hell, even Pinochet escaped justice.

4. Fujimori is a bigtime war criminal.
He is an assassin and a traitor to his nation. His war against the Peruvian people left many orphans in its wake. They should not forgive him.

7. Fujimori must have felt, after watching Bush, the time is right
for little monsters to seize power, and run roughshod over the people again.

From the Reuters article posted by Eugene:
"It is my aim to temporarily remain in Chile as part of my efforts to return to Peru and keep my promise to an important part of the Peruvian people who have called on me to be a candidate in the 2006 elections," Fujimori, 67, said in a statement released earlier in Peru and Chile.

Fujimori said in October he would run for president despite being barred from political activity due to 21 criminal charges against him. These included corruption and political responsibility for the death squad murders of 25 people, including a child, in the early 1990s.
(snip/...)
No doubt his supporters in Peru are the clones of the European-descended idiots in Venezuela who attempted to override the wish of the people and kidnapped Hugo Chavez, claiming he "quit," several years ago, with Bush/s full support, as well as the complete editorial backing of the New York Times, and Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and other "news" organizations.

10. Thinking of sneaking back into Peru?
"I plan a temporary stay in Chile ..." Well, that's probably a realistic plan.

12. How much do you want to bet that Fujimori will do what Pinochet did
When arrested in London and develop some life threatening illness which will cease the moment he's released from custody, only to reappear again whenever it looks like he may be pursued again?
