PRIME Minister John Howard's approval rating has dropped to its lowest in four years, with the industrial relations changes and anti-terror laws taking their toll.
The latest Newspoll of 1159 voters, published in The Australian newspaper, shows public dissatisfaction with Mr Howard has risen ten points in the past three months to 50 per cent. It is Mr Howard's worst dissatisfaction level as Prime Minister since August 2001, though his satisfaction rating was much worse when he was pushing through the GST legislation in 2000.
Kim Beazley has also suffered at the polls, with voter dissatisfaction jumping to 53 per cent - a record high for him as Opposition Leader. However, Mr Beazley's preferred Prime Minister rating picked up two points to 28 per cent, against Mr Howard's 50 per cent.
The Coalition's primary vote picked up four points to 41 per cent, while Labor's remained virtually unchanged at 39 per cent. On a two-party-preferred basis, Labor still leads the coalition 51 per cent to 49 per cent.
