Four soldiers killed by suicide bomb in Iraq - U.S.

BAGHDAD, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Four soldiers were killed when a suicide car bomber attacked their checkpoint on a road south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Monday.

The soldiers were attached to Task Force Baghdad, the statement said, but no other details were available. A military spokesman would not confirm if the soldiers were American.

The attack came on the same day that a suicide car bomber killed six Iraqi policemen and three civilians in Baghdad's southern Dora district.

6. We're already up to 2053?
I've tried to avoid the daily toll since it hit 2000 (hurts too much). I know, "beautiful mind" and all, but unlike the she-witch my spawn isn't responsible for this carnage.

RIP

7. And Bush still insists
that getting our troops blown up and killed is a noble cause? The man is a disgrace. I'm so sorry for the families of the dead and injured, on both sides. This war is illegal, and was something Bush demanded to satisfy his own desire to gain power, and enrich his cronies.

Bush is the worst president in American history, and will go down in history as one of the most hated, reviled men in the world.

10. 1980 --> 2000 took 2 months. 2000 --> 2053 took two weeks.
Or so it seems. I guess the death counter can freewheel until 2480/2980.

9. The toll will just keep climbing!
Why are the people allowing another Vietnam? THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!

HOW many names will be on our Iraq War Memorial? I never, never thought in my lifetime I'd see another Vietnam.

This may be heresy to say this, but I believe we need a draft to stop this thing. People will wake their ass up then. The young people who are paying no attention to this will then.

There are no words yet invented to describe the EVIL creatures who started this. :-(  :grr:

15. All I know
is that when I checked on this morning, the number of U.S. fatalities for the month was at 19, and when I got back this evening and checked, it was 26.

Looks like * is getting a pretty good start on his next thousand victims, not including the thousands of dead Iraqis of course.:-(

Suicide Bomber Kills Four GIs in Iraq

By ROBERT H. REID,
Associated Press Writer

1 hour, 33 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide bomber blew up his vehicle at a checkpoint south of Baghdad and killed four American soldiers Monday, the military said. The U.S. command also announced five soldiers from an elite unit were charged with kicking and punching Iraqi detainees.

The suicide attack came as U.S. and Iraqi troops battled al-Qaida-led militants for a third day in Husaybah, a town on the Syrian border that the military describes as a major entry point for foreign fighters. One Marine has died there, the U.S. command said Monday.

Al-Qaida in Iraq warned the Iraqi government to halt the offensive in Husaybah within 24 hours or see "the earth ... shake beneath their feet."

"Let them know that the price will be very heavy," said an Internet statement purportedly issued by al-Qaida, which has been blamed for some of Iraq's worst terror bombings. The warning's authenticity could not be confirmed.
......

The four soldiers who died in the suicide attack were assigned to the Army's Task Force Baghdad, the U.S. command said, offering no further details. Earlier Monday, the military said a U.S. soldier died Sunday in a roadside bombing near Tikrit.

19. "no decisions have been made to reduce troops levels next year"

....The newly announced troop rotation is smaller than the one currently in Iraq, but a Pentagon spokesman, Lt. Col. Barry Venable, said no decisions have been made to reduce troops levels next year.

The U.S. has maintained a roughly 138,000-strong troop level in Iraq throughout the year, expanding it to 160,000 this fall because of the Oct. 15 Iraqi constitutional referendum and Dec. 15 election.

Monday's announcement did not include any Marine Corps units, although they apparently will be added later.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said conditions in Iraq in coming months would determine any changes in U.S. force levels.
