Virginia Democrat wins governor's race
Despite President Bush's personal appearance for Kilgore!

Now that's what I call good news! New Jersey next?

Virginia Democrat wins governor's race

The Associated Press

Democrat Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine won the Virginia governor's race Tuesday, soundly defeating Republican Jerry Kilgore in a contest for a GOP-leaning state that was closely watched by political analysts for signs of the public's mood ahead of next year's midterm elections.

In New Jersey, Democratic Sen. Jon Corzine opened up a strong lead against Republican Doug Forrester with a third of precincts counted.

Kilgore lost despite a last-minute rally with President Bush and a harsh campaign ad that alleged that Kaine, a Roman Catholic opposed to the death penalty, would not have executed Adolf Hitler.

Kaine had 812,235 votes, or 51.2%, to Kilgore's 737,747 votes, or 46.5%, with 82% of precincts reporting.

In New Jersey, Corzine had 413,431 votes, or 52.9%, and Forrester had 344,937 votes, or 44.1%.

Statewide ballot referendums put gay rights before the voters in Maine and Texas, while several government-overhaul measures on the ballot in California were seen as a referendum on GOP Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who campaigned hard for them.

Both New Jersey and Virginia saw races for governor marked by nasty personal attacks. One ad in Virginia charged that one candidate would not have supported the death penalty for Adolf Hitler; another in New Jersey quoted a candidate's ex-wife as saying he would betray the state...

10. Wow ... Proud of my state tonight
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 10:09 PM by kwolf68
A little feel good. I got to the polls (Repuke area) and (of course) I voted in no time. In fact, I didn't even have to wait. Maybe the Pukes decided since Bush is going to be crowned King and Jesus is due back on Earth in a few years no need to sign on for the moronic Kilgore.

Whatever the case, had a nice enouncter with a Repuke campaigner...She was a cordial lady, well dressed in her late 40s Id say and she wreaked of religious quackery.

She asked me, "Could I have a second of your time to ask for you vote for Jerry Kilgore."

I was very nice and pleasant...I smiled and said, "Mam, I do appreciate you participating in our Democratic process, but I am voting for Mr. Kaine this evening and until some policies of your party on separation of church and state, the environment, and corporate power change I won't ever consider a Republican."

She responded, "I'm sorry to hear that."

I said, "Don't be...I've given it a lot of thought and I am at peace with my decision to make the vote I'm making tonight."

That was it....

15. If Dems want to win races, they need to beg Bush to show up...
..and stump for the opposing candidate!!

Please, Junior, Please!! We need you to stand next to our opponent, and aggressively endorse him, give him a bear hug and declare that you two are politically mind melded! PLEASE!!!

Seriously, folks. This could be a winning strategy for 06!

Go Dems!

22. Major Egg on smirk's face.
Malloy says that Bush was "drunk off his ass" while campaigning for the repug in Virginia last night.

My wife says that he's "over medicated" with whatever they've had him on for five years+.

I say that whatever he's on isn't working any more. He's overwhelming the drugs with his extreme dry-drunkness.

27. Just heard the good news here in VA
So glad to see we have a governor who can think! So far (11:28 pm, est), it looks like Leslie Byrne has conceded, which is too bad, but the atty general race is too close to call. Voted after work, no lines! But heard there was a steady stream all day at our local polling place.

28. I was afraid to log on tonight, But, while voting today
in an area of N. VA (the mountains west of Fairfax) that was so damn solidly * in 2000/2004, I suddenly realized that I hadn't seen as many Kilgore signs etc as one might think in the area lately. DID SEE many Kaine signs. That gave me hope as well as a pretty good turnout for my little polling place. We too have touch screen machines, but mine registered correctly first time out. Would still prefer to have had a paper receipt for my votes.

I don't know what I would have done if Kilgore won today. I'm already so depressed daily due to the criminals running our once-great country into the mud.

I'm still hoping that puke snake running for AG loses. He makes my skin crawl. As of 12:03 am est, the race was still too close to call per WPost.

This should energize every Virginian Democrat or Independant/moderate Republican to work to defeat the neocons in our state in the 2006 elections. We need to get Voter Registration events NOW so that the thiefs don't turn people away next year who register at the last minute. Once you have your voting card, they can't turn you away.

I had no doubt that most people would vote for Kaine,
