US criticised for use of phosphorous in Fallujah raids
A leading campaign group has demanded an urgent inquiry into a report that US troops indiscriminately used a controversial incendiary weapon during the battle for Fallujah. Photographic evidence gathered from the aftermath of the battle suggests that women and children were killed by horrific burns caused by the white phosphorus shells dropped by US forces.

The Pentagon has always admitted it used phosphorus during last year's assault on the city, which US commanders said was an insurgent stronghold. But they claimed they used the brightly burning shells "very sparingly" and only to illuminate combat areas.

But the documentary Fallujah: the Hidden Massacre, broadcast yesterday by the Italian state broadcaster, RAI, suggested the shells were commonly used and killed an unspecified number of civilians. Photographs obtained by RAI from the Studies Centre of Human Rights in Fallujah, show the bodies of dozens of Fallujah residents whose skin has been dissolved or caramelised by the effects of the phosphorus shells. The use of incendiary weapons against civilian targets is banned by treaty.

Last night Robert Musil, director of the group Physicians for Social Responsibility, called for an investigation. He told The Independent: "When there is clear testimony that use of such weapons has done this, it demands a full investigation. From Vietnam onwards there has been a general condemnation of and concern about the injuries and consequences.

1. The cluster bombs were pretty rude as well.
Let's not lose sight of their use.

Years from now we're going to be kicking ourselves for not having done more to rid ourselves of the human trash in the white house. Between the debt and the foreign relations, we stand to lose more than we can afford. And here we sit with our hands effectively tied. And that doesn't even address what the Iraqis are suffering. Why can't we just pull these clowns out of the building and find the nearest lamp post. It was good enough for Musolini.

"In some places we found bodies of fighters, dressed in black and with ammunition belts.

But in most of the houses, the bodies were of civilians. Many were dressed in housecoats, many of the women were not veiled ? meaning there were no men other than family members in the house. There were no weapons, no spent cartridges.

It became clear to us that we were witnessing the aftermath of a massacre, the cold-blooded butchery of helpless and defenseless civilians.

Nobody knows how many died. The occupation forces are now bulldozing the neighborhoods to cover up their crime. What happened in Fallujah was an act of barbarity. The whole world must be told the truth."

2. Took 2 years for this story to finally get some wings. Thank God.
Now we need to keep it out there. More evidence that this cartel has to leave and more reasons for people to see how horrifying these folks are.

Never mind what it does to our relationships with the rest of the world. My guess is they won't be so happy with us using Napalm bombs on people in the 21st Century. Added to the torture, I'd say we are probably not going to win any congeniality awards.

Wake me when they are gone please. I've had enough of this nightmare as have we all...

6. I've just seen the Italian documentary
I'm feeling rather sickened and shocked. Defiantly not awed. The people who chose to use these weapons need to pay a dear price and be help to account for these crimes against humanity. What's more, they held off the attack on Fallujah 'til after they were sure bush won re-election, on orders from the pentagon. These monsters must pay for this. How else will america ever recover from this?

9. We must have Nuremberg-style war crimes trials!
No pardons for Bush and his henchmen and henchwomen!

All war criminals must be prosecuted, from Bush all the war down to the lowest private.

10. What do we care about treaties?
> The use of incendiary weapons against civilian targets is banned by treaty.

That's never stopped Bushler before. His attitude is "What do we care
about treaties?"

The day he's in the dock at the Hague is the day I will rejoice!

14. traitors and war criminals
the neocons and all who facilitated them including the main stream media hacks - too afraid to lose their little jobs, too afraid to confront or disobey their handlers. Too afraid to be patriots and stand up against the corporatist, neocon evil. God I am sick of these people. The penalty should be the noose.

Yea...Just like how "smart" bombs only hit their intended targets.

:grr:

This administration is guilty of war crimes and needs to be deposed.
