WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee said on Tuesday it plans later this month to discuss indecent content aired on television to determine how to proceed on potential legislation to limit such material.

Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens plans to convene a public forum on Nov. 29 that will include representatives of television broadcasters, cable companies and content providers, the committee said.

The U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year approved legislation to raise fines to as much as $500,000 from $32,500 on television broadcasters and entertainers who violate decency limits on the air. The Senate has yet to act.

Television and radio broadcasters are barred from airing obscene material and they are limited to showing indecent content, typically sexually explicit or profanity laden material, to late night hours when children are less likely to be in the audience.

4. Why do they have to limit anything?
Televisions have v-chips (and "off" buttons), cable boxes have parental control filters, television programs have ratings and live broadcasts have multi-second delays. :eyes:

12. Democrats should stake an opposition position on this issue
Democrats should attack Republicans for supporting big government and Democrats should stand up for the freedom of adult Americans to watch whatever they want on cable TV.

This is an easy issue for Democrats to be on the right side of, but watch some stupid Dems stand up and side with the pro-censorship Republicans.

We should be against censorship.

on the 700 Club. . .and that blue-haired monstrosity masquerading as a "christian" on that all-God-all-the-time network.
