White house to "hit back" at dems....
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/08/Bush.retaliates/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Top White House officials say they're developing a "campaign-style" strategy in response to increasing Democratic allegations that the Bush administration twisted intelligence to make its case for war.

White House aides, who agreed to speak to CNN only on the condition of anonymity, said they hoped to increase what they called their "hit back" in coming days.

81. Sorry, but this is completely false
Clinton asked the inspectors to leave in '98 because he wanted to play big bad guy and illegally bomb Iraq over technicalities. Because the inspectors left we never got a clear picture of what happened after '98.

2. good luck with that...
the public psyche has already shifted. Most americans believe we went to war on false pretences - and that at least some "spin" was used to sell us; however a lot of folks aren't sure how intentional or malignent was the reason - a lot of folks can not accept that their govt would do such a thing.... however, a transparent nasty campaign will push the public sentiment over the brink as it will do the opposite as hoped by the WH - it will demonstrate the degree to which the WH will go to decieve the people and will push some of the folks over from we went with wrong infor but they must not have known better (the bad intel excuse) to... "Those B*st*rds!"

They can't seem to realize that the political reality on the ground has so drastically shifted - and what used to work for them now does them great damage.

My guess - they do one or two attempts at "hit back" - it backfires somewhat - and they pull back before they commit more self-damage.

6. Repugs seem to be angry at WH for not having a coordinated response.

te he.

.....Republicans on Capitol Hill who have criticized the White House for failing to coordinate responses to a host of issues say Bush aides are working noticeably harder to set up meetings and conference calls to arrange a widespread response.

Aside from regular White House briefings, it is unclear which administration officials will participate in this "aggressive" response, which senior officials indicate will be unveiled in interviews and other public events.

It also is uncertain how much the president will be involved in the information campaign aside from "responding appropriately when asked," a third senior official said.

One senior official said Cheney would not participate in the White House response, despite that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, has accused the vice president of being a key offender in manipulating intelligence. (Read about Democrats closing the Senate to push the war probe)

I'd offer the VP the podium to refute the charges. Cheney is after all the head of the Senate (as VP). What are you afraid of Dick, can't you come out of you're undisclosed location and stick up for yourself? I'm not holding my breath because attacking your enemy's wife tells me a lot about the type of person you really are.

12. Oh boy!
This administration is going to do what they always do. What they excel at!

Making sound policy? No!

Solving problems? No!

Governing with integrity? No!

They are going to try to solve their problems with Public Relations and spin. Because it is the only thing they do well, it is their default action no matter what the situation.

But guess what? The American public is tired of promises and excuses. Where are the flowers and candy? Where is the "matter of weeks"? Where are the huge benefits we were supposed to gain for the huge and costly effort of deposing a tin-pot dictator?

Think about your past. How many times has a friend let you down and then regained their esteem in your eyes? Bush had the confidence of the American people and he let them down. He's kidding himself if he thinks more PR is going to fix that. And so is the Presstitute Pundocracy.

48. Correct. You're not the only one who's concluded this.
I think the White House has discovered that Bush is actually his own worst enemy. I started to notice a shift, when Bush started campaigning hard for the Social Security disaster.

He promised it would be "90 cities in 90 days". Every time they trotted him out, the proposed plan went down in popularity. The plan, which had a fair amount of support in the beginning, started to go down in support! Mike Malloy played some clips of Bush trying to push the agenda. He sounded like an idiot. "Ah, well, you see....it's an amor-tization....think about....uh, oh...give me a moment......"

I think Bush's handlers have always had a tough time with Bush. But it seems like lately, ANY time they drag him out, things get worse.

So they will probably not include Bush. They will probably pick other stooges to hammer out the message. Like McLiar, or Laura Bush, or maybe Poppy. Cheney's out. They're running out of people.

68. Send bush out on a 90 day "Iraq war is good" tour?
Why? the speeches are only made to a hand selected audience, otherwise people would be throwing rotten fruit. They ought to just face the fact that they are all going down.

71. How will Rove have time for this?
Seems like his plate is pretty full with legal matters at the moment. Does he really have the bandwidth to go on the offensive at the same time? We'll see.

86. We can only hope that this "campaign-style" strategy
is at least as effective as the campaigns that the repubs ran for their candidates for governor here in New Jersey and in Virginia, because everyone can see just how effective they were. :eyes:
